I'm going to stop looking under my bus, I dropped a can got down to pick it up and noticed my steering box is leaking, now I know a late one can be fixed but heard an early is difficult is this correct?
Jb weld. Bit of engine degreaser. Go fishing. End of problem. As a side note never look under your van unless it’s to retrieve money or drag out the unsuspecting pedestrian you just dragged under it whilst eyeing up a bit of crumpet.
Where's it leaking from? you can change seals etc on the early boxes Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
I’m afraid it sounds like it’s Fubar’d Baz *Disclaimer: I have no idea whether that’s true or not, it’s almost certainly a load of cobblers, but I felt you needed a negative response to balance out the positives....a bit of Yin and Yang if you will. Hey, don’t thank me
I've stripped mine in the past and change the seals and machined the pwg. Now you can get new pegs and worms as well but they aren't cheap. I ordered these for the seals: 1 x 25x36x7mm Nitrile Rubber Rotary Shaft Oil Seal with Garter Spring R23 / TC 1 x 24x36x7mm Nitrile Rubber Rotary Shaft Oil Seal with Garter Spring R23 / TC From here http://www.simplybearings.co.uk Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
Can't see from the post why JB weld would be needed....pop a new seal / seals in .. It's so easy, even I could do it.
Well my nut ( oo er missus) was not much more than finger tight and the drop arm pulled off....and I'm about as strong as a pint of London Pride. Think I was lucky, but the only "difficult " parts will be breaking ball joint and pulling off drop arm....neither of which are rocket science. I had seals for months before I plucked up the courage to do it.
I did actually ask this question a on an earlier thread about leaking steering boxes but why can't you just pack it with grease?
I think it's because you can end up with voids in the grease. Hardest bit I found was getting the drop arm off. Used a modified puller and some heat and it went with a big bang, bazinga Sent from my Pixel 4 using Tapatalk
