..from my experience driving a bus with factory steering and a bus with PAS fitted I would deffo say the one with the PAS is deffo less sensitive in cross winds..just bear in mind I have a smaller diameter steering wheel fitted so I don’t have to correct it from side to side so much compering to a big wheel if you know what I mean..my ps is set at about 1/3 of power assistance though..now my works van is a 68 plate vw crafter and I can tell you it behaves exactly the same as my bus in cross winds..loaded up or not..and it’s front wheel drive too so I think what mostly plays a role is jus the shape..i also know from experiece that those kamei fron spoilers helped alot on beetles..I’ve seen quite few of some ‘ugly’ versions on bays too years ago..was told they helped too but would never consider fitting one on my bus though(sorry I just can’t find the pic of it atm).. Green shocks doesn't always mean original shocks. Mine are green and we're fitted new in 2002. Magnum shocks rings a bell
Mine came with green shocks too. They were knackered. A very rough test off the van is to extend them, put one end on the floor and lean on them. They should not collapse before you get a chance to really lean your weight on them.
It's just occurred to me that if you are confronted with a cross wind, you should try sweet talking it to calm it down a bit. A crosswind, however, is an entirely different matter!

I had one on mine for years (not a Kamei), made a massive difference in head and cross winds but was a b##ger on rough ground, getting on and off ferries and it even caught the ground a few times negotiating really tight hairpin bends in the Alps. It ended up getting split and tattered so it had to go. I concede it probably did look a bit ugly but if it weren't for the drawbacks above I'd have another.

Never seen another like mine, before or since although it was similar in design to the Kamei spoilers as fitted to Beetles... I used to think it gave the old bus quite a purposeful look though... Can't even remember where I got mine from now although I do remember there used to be an older fella who stood at Stanford Hall for many years who made a smaller, perhaps neater version in white; think he made bumpers too. Can't find any photos right now. Incidentally when my brother first bought DUX in 1996 a PO had fitted the front spoiler from a Triumph Dolomite as found the HLs and Sprints - it actually fitted rather well although I doubt it was deep enough to greatly alter the aerodynamics. You can just make it out in the pic below (I may have better hidden in the archives)...
