Great job Sarah. The teeth look in good nick, I'd refurb that. Proper Bosch too.

Yep, gotta be worth a try. There's a bloke down near Southampton that will do it.
I've managed to convince the delivery driver at work to make a small detour on Tuesday when he's 'in the (vague) area' to drop it off for me, and then I'll go and collect it later in the week.
Refurb man reckons he can do it in a day or two.
    Woo hoo.

Better stick me neck back in there to at least have a look at the bush (from a distance!)

A man in a shed is best if they still exist - the last place I asked were just going to send it off somewhere, give me a random replacement and take a cut - er, I can do that.

I think this bloke is probably in a shed, and all his online reviews indicate ‘old school’.

Not sure my bush is looking particularly special? :(

  11. Your bush certainly looks like it’s seen a bit of action over the years

Best to change it when the engine’s out.

Muchos wear on the right hand side. Without a tight bush you'll have a loose shaft so you need to pull it out. I'm sure you are aware your starter only has a bearing at one end and that is the other one.
Good news is they come out easily with the right size tap to grip them. Is it M12 or M14?

Will I get away with refitting the starter with this bush, knowing the engine will be out and it will be an easier job on the latter part of June (after my holiday) or will I risk messing up the refurbished starter motor and should bite the bullet and do it now?
I’ll need to buy stuff so any info about requirements would be appreciated

  15. Lube it up and stick the motor back in. Botley Bob won’t change the shaft, so same as it’s always been.

Cool. I'm struggling to remember the safe place I put the new bush anyway!

Sounds a bit 'one man band' but I like that :)

  18. When you have the engine out, might be worth cleaning 40 year’s worth of clutch dust out of your bell housing ;)

I keep driving past that road where he works.. I may be taking my Hitachi starter off my boat diesel there .. it messes around sometimes.

    Here's a tip....
Getting the nut back on behind the fan shroud I used my 4 year old granddaughter
Very handy if you have one as she just climbed right in.
