Sticking my phone behind the fan shroud, in advance of dismantling / removing the oil bath air cleaner tomorrow morning, is this the D bolt stud that I’m looking for?

And bad luck someone used an extra long D-bolt for you to wind the nut off! On the plus side at least they didn't use a lock nut, that would be annoying,
So I’ve been reading through the other starter motor removal of thread, courtesy of @Little Nellie. https://thelatebay.com/index.php?threads/starter-motor-removal.94377/ There seems to be more to this than the ‘it’s easy, just two bolts, disconnect the battery, don’t drop it on your head’ that we agreed back at the start…. Getting the bush out? Getting the new bush back in? Stringing up the starter so it doesn’t drop….. all this, and more. But mostly the bush stuff. I didn’t even know where the bush went…. But it looks from the photos like it’s inside and not easy to get out?? Do I need special tools?
It’s so easy to remove the motor and put it back in, I’d just refit the reconditioned motor first with the old bush just greased. See if that fixes the issue. If you really need to change the bush, just take the motor out again bush is a bit of a contortionist trick
When you get the starter out (without the string!) take a photo of your bush and we'll tell you if it look unduly worn , but, if you are up for it it's a good idea to change them - most starters come with one and a note to say if you don't fit it the warranty is void so read into that what you will.
The bush lives in the bulgy bit of the bellhousing that the end of the starter goes into. You can twist it out with an M12(?) tap (which you probably don’t have) and knock the new one in using a nut screwed onto one of the mounting bolts as a drift. Pretty easy, but does require having an extendable neck like ET. I’d leave the old bush in and lube it with a drop of oil if you’ve got long fingers. Matron.
It's beginning to sound like refurbing the starter motor will mean I can go on my holidays at the start of June without fear of stopping for petrol and not starting again, and having the confidence to leave the hammer at home. It also sounds like my bush will be remaining in place, unless its been too well worn (snigger), and it can be replaced in a few weeks time when the engine etc comes out and I'll not be lying on my back on my driveway, wishing I had ET's neck, and wondering what taps and drifts are. Is that about the sum of it??!
Excellent. This sounds more doable. Starter motor off, refurb, lube bush, refit, go on holiday, come back, make bush someone else's problem. Oh and disconnect the battery
