Ha, okay, fair points, I did suspect there was a degree of over thinking!
I am happy with the way Clem drives, it’s all fine apart from increasing frequency of non starting, so I’ll just sort the starter motor and go back to happily pootling around!
    Thank you ;)

Assuming it's a starter problem rather than a wiring or ignition switch problem. :)

Don't forget to disconnect the battery earth lead.

Hopefully that's covered by the starter refurb!
If it plays up after that at least Sarah will know what to look into next.

Did you ever fit a hot start relay?

Don’t forget to disconnect the battery

Not yet, although @paneuropaul was kind enough to let me have his. I figured I’d do it at the same time as fixing the starter motor.

Can’t be anything important; it would’ve been mentioned already.

    Nope.
    Nothing springs to mind.
Get right on in there with me spanners?

Now you mention it though, I'm sure there was something......

Dont forget if you can find an over the counter exchange starter somewhere near you .. like GSF, you pay a larger sum including the core charge. Then if you take the old one back once you are sure the new one is better then you are refunded the core charge.
So your down time is minimal, if the new one works Ok. My GSF exchange is a Bosch.

And dont forget the other cause of clicking is a burnt ignition switch .. if you havent fitted a hot start relay, its worth doing as well. I needed an ignition switch too about 8 years ago - mine was too far gone.

Agree with Mike, hot start relay takes the strain off your ignition switch, costs almost nothing and is easier to fit than changing your ignition switch would be... if that's not already the problem.
