  6. I resort to duct tape.

Whoever thought up that blasted D-bolt and nut at VW shoukd be sacked. Easier in a Beetle, I suppose.

  7. I actually mentioned it to Sarah at Techenders so I win:D

  8. I find a bit of masking tape around the bolt keeps it in place, then use a ratchet spanner on the nut.

Okay, thanks all - I'll have a look at the weekend and hopefully all will become clear.

....Should I disconnect the battery first ?
    ;) :D

  12. Have a squidge underneath and have a look. Not difficult to take it out. Don’t drop it on your head!

  18. I haven't read the whole thread, but are you replacing it, do you have a new one?

Oh and don't forget to disconnect the battery (ok, I read a little bit) ;)

No, I'm hoping to get mine refurbished as it's a Bosch. There's a chap down in Botley who can turn it around in a couple of days - but obviously I have to remove it, deliver, collect and refit.
The alternative is a new replacement, which probably wouldn't be any easier as I'd still have the 'remove' and 'refit' parts to do, I'd just be skipping the 'deliver' and 'collect' which are really more my forte if I'm honest!
