  1. I had a genuine empi twin quiet pack on my bug in the early 90's. loved that exhaust.

  2. You can get stock stainless made by JP, not show finish, just don't corrode through. DSCN2402.JPG

Yeh, just had a look at their website- they look like a good custom exhaust builder, but they don’t seem to offer off the shelf exhausts, so you’d be buying a custom made, stock looking, exhaust and wouldn’t have any previous reviews etc to go on.

Bit risky, there’s a place near me that does custom stainless stuff, but would prefer s tried and tested .

  4. JP as in the Danish company. Who make stock exhausts as well as Ernst. https://www.justkampers.com/vw-t2-b...c-aircooled-1900cc-watercooled-1979-1985.html

I had standard steel heat exchangers and back box on my 1600 Beetle. They were the US fuel injection ones. I fitted stainless J tubes and a CSP single quiet pack and it made a big difference. Smother and more responsive and sounds great.
On my 2.0 ltr bus I have standard heat exchangers and standard back box but twin Dellortos and that sounds great when I open it up.

I bought and returned a Jopex Stock type-4 silencer, it was poorly built and lightweight compared to an Ernst.
The flanges were out of line and the main seam was "frilly" not closed.

  9. That's why you only get around 4-5 years for the JP one, 6-7 years for the Ernst but Ernst are harder to get in the UK Even original VW ones often needed some fettling. The stainless ones are actually heavy, well made and fit nicely, might be a bought in and badged job. DSCN2394.JPG

Ernst were hard to get a while back but no longer, I think JK sell them, I bought one a year ago.

  11. JK haven't specified what make they are for a while.

What can I say. I bought one last year...or the year before... they confirmed it was Ernst when I emailed them and so it was.

  13. I’m not sure how the stock heat exchangers on a type 4 effect head cooling from experience as I’ve either run rotted exchangers or j pipes. I’m currently in the process of welding up heater tins and putting the system back to stock. It’s tedious but they are welding up nicely. I will certainly post my CHT experiences. Just looking at the heater tins they look like they play a part in directing airflow, both inside and around them.
