I’m rather fond of the Freddie Truman statue in Skipton. Not sure Freddie had particularly strong ties to Skipton, but it’s a fab statue, well worth going to see. Just found out the sculptor also did the Eric Morcambe one in, er, Morcambe
We had Singers Foundry in Frome that did a lot of the statues you see in that London, like the Lions and The scales of Justice, etc, and other places like Liverpoooooooooooooo. Got a feeling they cast Saddams statue that got felled on the telly, by the crowd there, too.
From Wikipedia "Fred Trueman married Enid Chapman on 19 March 1955 at All Saints' Church, Scarborough, and had three children: Karen, Rebecca and Rodney.[39][77] After divorce in 1972, Trueman remarried on 28 February 1973 at the register office in Skipton. His second wife was Veronica Wilson who had two children: Sheenagh and Patrick. They lived in the Craven village of Flasby in the Yorkshire Dales.[126] Trueman was the titular proprietor of a company called Freddie Trueman Sports Ltd which operated a sporting goods shop in Skipton until it was dissolved.[127]" So yep, links with Skipton.
Oh yep, I know he had some links to Skipton, just not what you might necessarily call statue-worthy ones. Either way, it’s a fab statue, and he is a bona fide Yorkshire icon
Arthur Lowe's birthplace, Hayfield Wigan, but not pie related The Singing Ringing Tree, above Burnley
