  1. So the time has come my LVH engine has to go.

It's a 2 ltr type 4 CJ code (hydraulic tappets) engine.

Rebuilt less than 500 miles ago by the dark lord himself and has proven to be as good a build as all the others on here that he built and then died.

This one is not dead (yet) and does actually still run and really doesn't sound that bad, it has a little bit of cam noise and the tappets take a while to STF up but once they do it actually goes quite well.

Last year when the engine had done a massive 250 miles number 3 cylinder decided that it had had enough and was going on strike, a new head fixed that little problem and it took us all the way to the isle of wight, and back. No taxis involved. Then I went to move it out of the garage and it did it again, well I thought it had. So teddy's out of the pram time, bought a Subaru Forester, which has had the engine, gear box and loom converted and is going in. The bus sat in the garage in disgrace, given time alone to contemplate what it had done, clearly it felt guilty as when started and revved up to back up the drive the noisy tappet got some oil and it shut up and ran quite well, well enough for a blast round the block, so happy was I that I forgot to take the pillows off the roof. Lots of happy people flashing their lights and waving "I'm like, I know he is lovely" pride very often commeth before a fall and it was a long way down, to collect various pillows from the verge.

Anyway it continues to run, but it is coming out. Aside from the silencer this is a complete engine, it has stainless J tubes not heat exchangers. It includes the extremely rare lower tins and a couple of boxes of stuff, spares and the like. Oil, filters, another coil, alternator, voltage regulator and some other lucky dip items.

Be under no illusion this is going to need work, this will not get plonked in and get you to the Outer Hebrides and back unscathed, you will get to know the RAC man very well. This is spares or repair, running currently but not a mint low mileage engine, well it's low mileage.

It's still in the bus at the moment and if anyone is interested it can be seen and heard running, I also have a video, actually that's a little too personal, but I do also have a video of the engine running.

The core is worth £250 as an exchange and all the other bits go with it, complete solex carb set up, including airbox, tins, distributor (2 I think), coil, regulator, alternators (2) If their is no interest for it as a whole then I'll sell the core and list all the other bits separately. Frankly, I'm lazy can't be bothered to take it apart and I could do with the space.

So there we have it a low mileage, running (just) nearly complete, I'm really selling this aren't I? Type 4.

£500 collected, if you want to help me heave it out once you have hooked your peepers on it, brilliant. You don't get anything off the cost but you will get my undying thanks, a firm handshake and if SWMNFO isn't home some biscuits and tea.

I can strap it to a pallet if you so wish, but the arrangement and cost of shipping will be the responsibility of the poor sole, sorry the buyer.

All joking aside, it is a runner and for someone who is adept with engines or want's a load of spares I think it's a good price.

Contact me on here if you are a glutton for punishment, it can be viewed and listened to in Sherborne, Dorset (well just outside for any pedant's still reading)

    Cheers for getting this far.

    Paul

I hope whoever buys it attempts to discover what it was going wrong with these engines. It must be the same basic mistake.

  5. If you want it you can bloody come and take it out yourself, to be fair you'd probably do it quicker without my "help"

I've been out for a spin in it - after the Isle of Wight trip - and it went pretty well, I thought. I'm used to a Type 1, mind ;)
GLWS Paul, and get that bloody Scooby engine in!

  7. I will, there's a slight problem of the ole being full of type4, currently

  12. Hi Paul, when you come to remove and replace I have a homemade trolley on castors for the engine and gearbox, I also used for test running my T1. You are welcome to borrow it and also my engine hoist. Hope the buyer keeps us posted on the innards of your T4, love to know what was going on in there.
