So are we allowed to go camping?

Just thinking about getting the kids out during the Easter holiday period.
I wouldn’t have thought campsites come under the pubs, cafes and restaurants bracket would they?
As long as there was social distancing and the clubhouse was shut?
Or am I kidding myself and being daft and socially irresponsible?

Obviously a stricter curfew/shutdown might come into play by then too.

  2. I’ve seen loads of sites still open - my sister and bro in law are camping near Poole at the moment. There’s no facilities open though and I think a lot of people will be considering the same thing over the Easter hols, which might end up being the downfall of it!

I guess it depends how you can manage the social distancing whilst still using the facilities. Caravan and Camping Club sites are staying open, for the moment. They sent out an email last night. They've had some stick because people will mostly be heading to more rural areas where health facilities may be more stretched. We are going to go out for days in the van where we can have a walk and a meal without putting ourselves, or anybody else, at risk.

  4. At the moment we are treading very carefully and until there is a change in advice etc taking this very seriously. I think there are a couple of things to consider when using shared facilities how long the virus might live on hard surfaces and how to stop kids camping having close-ish physical contact & the use of shared facilities lay equipment.. I'm not an expert in these things but perhaps these articles might assist.

The first gives some information on how long the virus lives on hard surfaces

And this one talks kids and the virus, in particular I draw your attention to the bit on using shared play facilities and play dates.

When I was in the office on Thursday I didn't use the Dyson hand dryers for the fear that they blow water (and potentially virus matter) around.

My dad runs a small campsite with basic facilities, he's still open!

I think perhaps wild camping with 1 over night stay is an idea. Tricky round the m25 area though. Not sure if such wild camping possibilities exist locally to us in west London.

If anyone knows of such a place please let me know!
Silly answers on a post card some where else please.

Most Caravan and motorhome club sites are open.
Problem is that places such as Cornwall only have one major hospital and a high level of older residents.
Perhaps escaping to the country isn't the answer.

No overnight parking in Royal parks. You get kicked out at dusk.

  14. Tell them you are self isolating and bog off as they are putting you and themselves at risk. Crack open a tin and lament the fall of life as we know it.

  15. They shut down the state forest and camp grounds in Oregon yesterday.
I think BLM and federal is still open.
We were instructed to shelter in place by our governor from 7:12 pm on today.
Kinda like we're being hearded into the cities.

    Social distancing is a theory.

Staying in your own home isn’t a theory, it’s worked in China.

We couldn’t enforce total lockdown early doors....unfortunately it will take many more deaths before we get serious.

Would you go camping if several families at your destination were unknowingly carrying this, and unwittingly passed it on when their kids played soccer with yours, you touched the tap on the water station, your missus caught it off the handle flushing the toilet.

I’m not here to police you, or guilt trip anyone else.

At some point we’ll realise that what will be applied in the next two weeks we could and should have applied ourselves now I.e anyone able to work from home does, everyone else ventures out to a bare minimum.

    Think macro not micro.

  19. Spot on, I'm as desperate as anyone to go camping but not at any cost:(

I'm afraid we need to put our own personal wants aside and look at the bigger picture.

    Yep.

The big hospitals have the army setting up treatment tents and mortuaries in their car parks.

Pulling back 10’s of thousands of retired staff is serious serious stuff.

The rest of us have to do everything we can to assist.....and that is stay in our own homes right now, and venture out only for essentials.

The alternative is everyone can catch it, stats are showing all ages might need critical care, and anyone can carry it and pass it on asymptomatically.

Time for us to cease not being informed and do what’s obvious with the stats from other countries.

Social distancing really is a theory.

The handle on your shopping trolley might have the sweat from a carrier that touched on a Wednesday (it’s a Saturday today) and you touch today. Every person that touches in between and doesn’t wash their hands could develop symptoms. Petrol pump handles, cash machine buttons, door entry pads.

Agreed walking in the wide open space on your own is unlikely, as long as you don’t touch gates, pay for parking etc etc.

Staying in our own houses, Id also say gardens and garages if you have solitary access needs to be our approach.
