Sliding door structure guidance

  1. Afternoon all

I'm mind replacing the skin and lower structure of the door and I have uncovered this under a Marmite ton of filler...

Anyone have some image of this section so I can cut this crap out and reinstate something resembling oem lol..

    Cheers[IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Sort of like 20200509_182127.jpg

Mine is cracked behind the bolts.
And there is nothing stopping the door going up off the U bolt because the bushings are not standard.

  3. They tend to crack where yours have, grind the welds flat, weld the cracks and carry on :)

The GRP ones always break just there too or they might have caught on in a bigger way.

Looks about right, as said weld over the cracks, but try not to grind back the welds flush, so as not to remove any strength within that area. I think they mostly all crack there due to enthusiastic slamming/ and half he weight of the door being held there.

I will be running a weld bead in there and thickening the metal.

I first thought when I saw your pictures.. thats not really too bad, apart from the back edge not being "straight"

That damage and subsequent messy repair would have driven me to bite the bullet and get a better door. Just sayin. I know they aren't cheap but I can only see it breaking again after you've got your bus all tickety boo and shiny paint. Then what?

  8. Long term I agree... Short term I can repair good enough to last a few more years yet and then when the rest of the bus is done financially I will be better off..

    Appreciate the feedback Zedders.
