Do you think Prince Rainier will be giving him the award?

  4. Unlikely, he died 15 years ago:rolleyes:

Or was that Tony Hart? Thinking about it they did look similar and you never saw them in the same room together.....

  11. Hmmm,

  12. I don’t agree with it, 30-40 million a year driving F1 best car, my Nan could get that car to win a race. The real hero’s are all the key workers of this year the fund raisers the people who bought us the vaccine, certainly not some rich kid from Monaco who calls his real home a slum.

  13. There are certainly more deserving cases . I've grown to dislike him over the last couple of years - he's become a bit of a spoilt brat .
Latest 'project' seems to be support for a team in the new off road E-racing championship which on the surface sounds a great idea but then he came out with all kinds of drivel about wanting to help the planet/green energy/saving the world/stopping climate change etc etc .
Total hypocrisy from a bloke who is the figurehead for a series that has a massive carbon footprint as they fly and drive their circus around the globe - yet another foot-in- mouth moment

Whether I agree with his politics or not I admire the fact that despite his wealth he is doing something for others and raising awareness.
Not many others in similar positions do that, and having him as a role model is, in my opinion, a good thing for those of a similar ethnic background.
I’ve not heard him slagging people off or splashing his money around inappropriately (but then I don’t read any popular press type stuff) and he has taken his ability to influence with responsibility and he chooses to use it to further causes he believes in.

He was never a ‘privileged rich kid’ like many in his sport, his dad gave up a lot for him in his early days.

So while there are no doubt plenty of other ‘normal people’ who go unrecognized, I don’t begrudge him this recognition at all.

I would rather see Lewis Hamilton given honours than for a lot of back slapping businessmen who quietly bankroll political parties and twist our destinies.

At least Lewis is open about what he supports, there is a lot of work needs to be done for minorities in this country.

    I love this thread.

Sir Clive Woodward - spent 7 years in charge - won 1 World Cup, 1 Grand Slam. Did nothing in club rugby or the community game, took the Lions to one of their worse tours in History.

There was no outcry over him not actually playing, the fact he happened to have some of the greatest players and coaches to ever play the game in his team, but yet is a knight. 'He' won ONE world championship.

Sir Mark Thatcher - admittedly hereditary (from his father, also WHOLLY undeserved). Mark's contribution to the UK is not not live there for most of his life, launch military coups in African countries and be mostly a thorough s**t, being convicted or fraud, tax evasion etc etc.

I believe he is allowed to vote on the Brexit bill, currently in the lords.

I mean - the list in endless - Sir JIMMY SAVILLE, Sir CYREL SMITH.....

The issue (not with anyone here I hasten to add*) with Lewis Hamilton is apparently his support of Black issues, you know, what with him being actually black o_O

*actually, that is me pacifying people - but let's play at being nice.

  18. I think the honorary process has been watered down who’s next Phillip Green for his work in bankrupting the retail industry sir Donald Trump for his ass kissing with Boris, I feel left out I’m going on eBay to get mine.

  19. As an aside to the whole Yes or No debate , boris has yet again bent the rules to give him the award ....

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...son-bends-rules-amid-tax-status-concerns.html

If you can`t be arsed to read it , which is understandable (Daily Mail!!) , the gist of the story is the fact Mr Hamilton has lived in tax havens since 2007 - Switzerland and latterly Monaco thus avoiding paying UK income tax . To be eligable for a knighthood the recipient has to be a UK taxpayer . Boris got around that by sneaking the award in the back door and declaring it under the "Diplomatic and Overseas list" , which was developed for UK Diplomatic and Ministry personel living and working abroad .

No other `sports personality` has ever been awarded a knighthood in this category .....

The whole thing stinks but Boris being a political animal will be hoping to turn BLM into votes

  20. The granting of Sir to someone be it a sporting icon or a business magnate does need to be sorted out, yes some name quoted did not or do not deserve the honour, or do require to have the honour removed, it can and has been done. But before the need to remove an honour surely the way they are granted should be reviewed first. The hereditary system is one place it can start, the person who inherits the title didn't earn it, their parents did.
There are lots more people who deserve the title of Sir or Dame, which doesn.t seem to create the same outpouring of anger or resentment as the title Sir.
I am sure in this present situation someone more deserving has earned recognition or is more deserving than some of the present selection of recipients.
Doctors, nurses, scientists who helped to provide a vaccine, but would the name of Matron Rebecca Higgins attract the same attention and applause.
