  2. I live in north yorkshire an encounter all sorts on the narrow roads

Normally a moment of calmness and a little raise of the hand makes everything ok

In my experiance people dont mind all that much sat behind a slow vintage vehicle but will beep and scream out of the window at a slow moving modern four wheel drive

Unbolt the seatbelts, to allow them to retract a little, sounds like they've been mounted at an incorrect angle if they are locking prematurely. Check to see if they are handed Left/Right as this can have a bearing to their locking-ness,

    Hope that makes sense.

  9. Mine only work when I'm on level ground, doesn't budge on a steep camber.

I think the old mechanism has a personality all of it's own. it did get a bit better with some light oiling. hope this helps.

If it's a new one then I'm scoobied if I know whay it is,cept it might need bashing, which is probably the wrong thing to do, I do find that all seatbelts at some time or other need a bit of focussing on

  12. My window rubbers are starting to look a bit cracked and dry when I clean the bus and I have really got the urge to rub a bit of vaseline in to soften them up a bit. Is this madness or would it do any good?

  14. Getting used to the hilldriving experience in a van now - it was pretty scary at first, and still can be at times (Cornwall steep, single-file country lanes, I'm talking about YOU!), but the moment I see a hill approaching now I accelerate to use as much momentum as I possibly can, and only occasionally now have to drop to second. Have just spent a week in the Gower and handled the hilly roads there much more competently. I do kind of feel bad for people stuck behind me though. Apart from those who think it is okay to drive right up my arse just because I can't go any faster. Not cool!

Question - how to get the windscreen washers to work. Guy we bought van from provided us also withy a bicycle pump, and I think we're supposed to pump air somewhere, but where, how much etc? ;D :-[ :-*

  15. There should be a valve on a short piece of tube tucked in somwhere round the washer bottle cap, (which is down behind the passenger kick panel on a LHD) attach the pump to the hose and pump away, as to the amount not 100% sure (i converted mine to electric), hang i'll go and see what i can find.......

  16. Thank you very much, that's great. I'm not sure how much to pump it with a bike pump, but will play around and see what happens. Cheers MH!

  19. If you find your switch is leaking, because your van is a 73' i think you will have the earlier design steering column, its not too hard a job to convert it electric, by replacing the pump in the column with a switch, but worry about that if when you pump it up you find water weeing out from the steering column ;)
