Show us your homemade interiors

  1. Got some photos of the build - did it this time last year, few beers, sunny weather, flip flops, power tools....recipe for success

Anyway, take your time and get the right materials and it should look smart: 20130726_203928 (640x360).jpg 20130726_203906 (640x360).jpg 20130726_203731 (640x360).jpg 20130726_203731 (1) (640x360).jpg

Edit: I feel I should add I have had very little experience with woodwork since D&T in College. It really was quite straight forward when you take your time and think about everything first. My Dad is pretty handy but other than holding the 8X4 when it was hanging off the edge of the garden table it can be done by one person.

Edging and finishing takes the most time though!

Don't underestimate how long it'll take, there are approx 150 seperate pieces of wood just on my bedside cupboards and drawers. All had to be made exactly right and unlike steel, if you go wrong it's scrap and you have to start again. Add to that I never made anything more complicated than a shelf before and it took AGES. All done with a router and grinder/cutting disc and a jigsaw to rough out the shapes and make templates.

  3. Ah thats what your interior looks like when im sober:lol:

  4. Hey @Robo ... it wasn't until I saw one of the photos posted after the weekend that I made the connection between you and the above photo, which I thought was ingenious use of space. If I'd made the connection yesterday I'd have insisted on having a nose around inside! Anyway... somewhat belatedly... love the interior - great idea!

  5. This is ours, the panels are made from birch ply and cut on a CNC and them wrapped in cream foil (plastic), I'm the IT manager at a furniture factory so I have access to this kit. The bed is a Rusty Lee from @delilah as are the door cards

  9. Right?
I was curious to see what sort of homemade interiors could be made by mere mortals, but I guess we'll never know.

  12. Tell me about it, I have to brush my teeth 15 times a day with Colgate and the ding sound every time I smile is annoying the hell out of me

Very nice interiors, and innovative ideas. :) I'm working with a joiner this week and we've been chatting about use of C.A.D and if that would help in optimum use of space camper design?

I like slide out units and hobs :)

What did your joiner say about using CAD? I'm a bit of a CAD monkey but keep thinking my gf dad (a former chippy) would disapprove highly of my use of CNC on the furniture!!

all i have is like a lip of metal running horizontal to the opening and wondered how you lined your roof? did you install lights in the side parts of the roof and can u run them off one link from fuse box ( i have wires in the roof coming from the fise box and just bought the van like it)any help appreciated:)

  19. Hi I have those same cables running from fuse box into my roof but like you no lights but I do have the westy style ply roof lining so with the cables suitably insulated I've shoved them out of the way & then ran new cables from the leisure battery circuit up the A pillar to serve some LED strips along the length of the van!

You could use the existing cables but I didn't want to run the lights for camping off the starter battery, the courtesy light is also missing from my van & they too have been suitably insulated after sparking them & blowing a fuse :D
