A sparrow hawk was eating a pigeon in the garden of a church cafe! Apparently it had caught it and was plucking it on the path but as there were too many visitors it dragged it off under the bench and carried on!

Bit rubbish photography as I didn’t go too near as to disturb it.

it’s under the £1 each sign.

We have had one come twice, that we know of, to take little birds of the feeder. Amazing to watch, not so much for the prey!

They seem to know when it’s bird feeding time and pick off their prey. I once watched one plucking a pigeon in the yard for about 10 mins, then saw the pigeon move  . I stopped watching then.

Some photos from Bloxham Steam Rally :)

The Hook Norton Brewery horses were there, plus lots of classic cars, Lorrie’s, showman’s caravans, motorbikes, Lister engines running on a board, steam engines, tanks, recovery trucks, fairground rides, bar and a Lancaster flyover :).

The photo of the recovery vehicles doesn’t show clearly that the trucks are connected by a solid tow bar and the front one, I think a Scammel, was pulling them all! Some out of shot but 8 or 9 in total! :)

For the first time in its life, the place I work is a tenant on its land rather than being owned by the estate. It's an odd feeling.
A few of us sat round in the car park at lunch, shared a few beers and gin &tonics, and reminisced about how it was back when us 'old timers' first worked there.
We've got 12 month to get off the land, so we either move the entire tree nursery or close.
4th July next year may well require a lot more gin.

I should've got a photo of us all drinking on the back of a pick up or sitting on an upturned cattle trough, but I didn't.
I had an icecream on my way home, so you can have a photo of that instead

    Who knows.
It's a completely bonkers idea to move an entire 30 acre tree nursery to a new location - especially with only 12 months to do it, having to keep up with all the normal work, making money etc whilst it's happening.
Only 5 months of the 12 are actually usable for moving the field-grown trees because they have to be asleep in the winter; and it's going to take at least £500k in ground work, additional wages, new office, completely new yard big enough to turn an artic lorry at the same time as storing 2 trucks, a landrover & trailer, a tractor and trailer, and a load of trees waiting to go out to customers, a brand new containerised tree area for the potted stuff we sell over the summer, storage barns, poly tunnels, chemical shed, potting shed.... the list goes on. Complete madness.
But as long as our owner thinks it's possible we have to try. I don't think he's completely thought how much it's going to cost, mind.
For me, the alternative is a lump of redundancy money (I've been there 24 years) - but for all my colleagues, the longest serving one of them has just 4 years of service. The rest are less. They'll get the best part of bugger all. So we will do our best to make it happen.
