On the back of a breakdown truck so soon, did it have a flat battery?

  3. I met this well posh bloke on a BA flight to Heathrow about 3 years ago, he described owning one as a "wholly unsatisfactory experience", I hope they've improved since then.

  6. :) arrived with 60% hopefully that'll be the last time on the back of a truck for a good while.
I think they have come on a lot in recent years. Build quality has improved a lot since the UK cars started to be made in china (never thought I would say that!) Wholly satisfactory so far :)
:D charging infrastructure seems to be improving all the time and the Tesla superchargers help as well. Planned a few of our typical journeys and they seem easily doable even allowing for some broken chargers.

I'll report back in 6 months to see if this early optimism was justified

  7. Been trial fitting the wings @gratboyslim collected for me at the TE before last, what a job!

Back on with 'originals' now, these can get the metal work done and altered to the right spec.

  8. Looking good mate. Did they line up with the bolt holes? They were decent thickness metal.

  10. Yes and no, I think is the best answer to that one. If I am honest, I had to get persuasive with passenger side and the driver's side rubs a bit under sharp corners, but the wing that came off that side did the same. Possibly a bit of sagging on those beam leaves?

Yes, they're decent enough quality, but the Bug has been raced, so it's not completely perfect at the front. In some ways, I am glad of that, means I am not afraid to use the car.

I am off to see the fabricator soon, see what he suggests.

I might get him to do the work and then have another pass at fitting them before they get done with finished paint.

You can see Matt's very flashy new blue Victron Bluetooth controller on the nearside rear cabinet:thumbsup:

  12. I seem to remember rolling the lips on the front wings to get clearance. I am sure they can be encouraged to fit! Yes, something to be said for not having a perfect car - it stops you using them if they are a piece of art rather than a mode of transport. I bought a bonnet for mine yesterday. Needs work, but first step to rebuilding my bug.

Is it just me who the thought of going on a cruise abhors them . Visiting port after port full of tourist trash, then sailing on in a mobile shopping center

  17. Each to their own I suppose - I'm happy to lie by a pool all day when on holiday and enjoy the local bars and restaurants in the evening, whereas some people organise holidays like military exercises, visiting crumbling ruins in the baking hot sun.

I try not to judge holidays that I haven't experienced myself, but the current UK cruises only have a fraction of the usual amount of guests on board and they seem very cheap for all inclusive trips.

  20. MrsNtfc has just got a Merc EQC and she took her parents down to Swanage last week in it(I went in the camper), to be honest finding a charging point was no problem. I recommend downloading a few apps, we used ZapMap, Pod Point and BP Pulse and even a relatively small place like Swanage has 6x7Kwh and 2x22Kwh chargers easily available:thumbsup:
