I recall doing something similar decades ago - removed the eyepiece from the telescope, a cheap one a mate built back in the 80’s. No idea where the photo is.

Bought this thing over thirty years ago, I did have a habit at the time.

Found it buried in a drawer. I just bought a rebuild kit, it lives Happy camp fires for next year

 

Can you still buy lighter fuel?

 

Yes, Zippo branded too. Wick, pack of flints and fuel was a fiver including p&p. Compared to the price of a pint, it seemed worth it for the memories.


Edit, it smells just like I remember it used too, as well

I got a Harley Davidson one that I bought around 1990. Smuggled back a big lump of Red Leb from Amsterdam in it, under the wadding.

 

I doubt you can even take a cigarette lighter on a plane these days, can you?
