  12. I suspect strongly that those 'wild flowers' have been planted there as part of some being nice to bees programme, sorry, and will get ploughed in as green manure... Still doesn’t detract from the view, or great photographs. The blue flowers are phacelia, also called blue tansy. Bees and other insects love them, they are planted to attract pollinators and insect pest predators, Integrated Pest Management, IPM . I know the people behind https://www.syngenta.co.uk/operation-pollinator I think I've said before, but I had a miss-spent youth studying agriculture.

  13. Lightening strike at the inlaws last night blew the sky broadband line filter apart. Killed their cordless phone and all the phone sockets apart from the master socket.

Used to get called out lots to lightning strike damage when I worked for BT a million years ago. Some of the damage was quite bizarre; outside cabling completely vanishing, holes blown open in plaster where chased wiring below, metal framed double glazed windows exploding where frame took a hit or outside wiring was close.
It can also hit the ground nearby and come up earth feeds.
Very common to blow system power supply units, CPUs and extension or line interface cards.

Closest I came to lightning was about six feet away. Was wakeboarding on a cable tow system on a lake. We stopped when a thunder storm started as the whole system is metal including the corner pylons anchored under water and the operator feed system and levers etc.

We thought it had passed so I wandered out on a jetty, just in time to see a strike hit the cable down the end of the lake, and jump the last metre from the 45 degree pylon down to the water right in front of me.

    Nearly shat my shorts.
