  1. I'm sober now. So just to clarify. :)
You can get a certificate without owning a cabinet. But you can't go out and buy a gun until you've shown a firearms officer how you will keep it secure. This doesn't have to be a cabinet. For example it could be chained to wall inside a wardrobe. Best thing to do is talk to your local firearms dept. And see what they suggest.

  2. Yes just the clays chap!

  3. Only just caught up on this, so firstly thanks for all the replies I shall indeed need a certificate from the authorities even if I just want to visit the shooting ground hire a gun & buy cartridges & go pop some clays with me mate, I don't however need a cert if I have a member of the grounds staff with us but they charge for this and pre-booking a shaparone is a must & we want to have the freedom to go as and when we can...

Probably best to speak with the authorities first but may well just get a cabinet sorted anyhoo as I don't think it will be long before we will be wanting our own shooters!

@paradox I've been on two stag parties to the shooting ground & the guy who was with us was very good, he gave us all the basics of safety & shooting etc. enough for those visits which is what they call a stage one tutorial but he said if we wanted to go more regular we would need to book in so he can take us through the stage two, he said when we are ready to take it further he does a stage three which covers cleaning & maintaining your own gun etc.

I'm kicking myself for not buying the cabinet I spotted on a car boot for £40 and because I saw that all the others seem expensive at £100 + but maybe there not and I just missed out on a bargain lol
