Some of their prices have become somewhat hilarious of late...especially on small stuff like that!

I have noticed that, also they are being more selective what they stock. loads of stuff on back order etc.. at least it looks that way. also took to marketing ploys like discounting overpriced stuff similar to bed and carpet companies ..lol..

  6. At one time they used to be on the forums Alex from Heritage and I think Josh from JK and would explain the reasoning behind something like this or give customer service advice ! But they don't seem to have a presence anymore.

They aren't being selective over stock, it's not available as Brazil have stopped production of a lot of stuff since stopping van production

  9. Over priced I agree, but it is certainly a very special screw, that you will not obtain at your local fastener stockist.

  11. lots of suppliers out there, shop around. General fixings like nuts bolts screws and other small stuff like grommets, get them in bulk from places like Screwfix, B&Q etc.

or use ebay. always good to have a stock of the small stuff.

Trouble is , what else do you do but search the nett and try and get something cheaper . Even then it will probably be half the price ....just drink one and a half pints less this week ...job done ;)

  14. To some extent, I don't believe it's still scene tax.

Five or ten years ago, then Yes it was. Times have moved on, values of these old buses have increased exponentially and they are now maintained and restored with the attention to detail previously the stuff of Ferrari or Aston Martin. They are also owned by a different sort of person, the sort who might just buy into a T2 as an investment. The scene has now moved away from the expense of air-cooled towards the cheap & cheerful T4, and moreover...

  15. I was asked to give some feedback on JK on one of those review sites. I wrote that the parts often seem wildly overpriced and are often poor quality. They wrote back saying that there were difficulties sourcing bits yabber yabber yabber.

Some of this I can understand - if they're making their own panels etc, well OK I suppose. But some I can't: if they're offering a general item at hugely inflated prices (just as an example I found the same oil-change can at a quarter of the price elsewhere), then one has to wonder how much of a premium they're adding to everything that they sell.

And I don't think it is just JK, almost all of the products are exactly the same across the suppliers (apart from things like stocking specialist gear shifters, parts they've made themselves and so on) and the prices are usually within a few pounds of each other. There is no particular reason for thinking that these expensive products are any better quality than generic products sold elsewhere (providing those generic products fit the van, of course).

Given that the vans themselves are basic construction, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of justification in charging a high price for a cable that happens to be the correct length (or even less when the description itself states that an adjustment is necessary) or a bit of metal pipe of the right dimensions with a hole cut into it.

  16. Its called 'being screwed' Sometimes I find parts cheaper on ebay than from actual shops selling them when you factor in postage etc. I have a old mg and parts for this is so much cheaper. Might be worth serching out someone breaking for parts and buy the whole light essembly.

  17. I need four of those as my rear light lenses are only held on with one screw either side.
The ones that I have got fitted appear to be stainless steel.
The ones on jk make no mention of being stainless
If anyone finds them at a reasonable price please shout up.

  20. It is indeed an odd-sized fastener...where else are you going to get one?
