Well, after two trips this week to pick bits and pieces up for Wilma and the beetle (Betty) we've decided the time has come to get a sat nav As much as it pains me to say, my navigation under stress (day from hell in work, trying to navigate throught the roundabout hell that is 'new' Warrington and emerging migraine) needs help. I can usually get us to places without drama but ... So need sat nav that is simple to use, clear screen and a sound off facility( 'cos I think, "Turn left" "Turn left NOW" will grate) second hand even better as I don't really want one Any ideas? Or even better got one to sell?
Basic Tom Tom is hard to beat. Full postcode search, (some only let you input the first part which is pointless IMO), accurate maps and just works. Not got me lost yet and I do over 20k miles a year.
I've got an old tom tom works bloody brilliantly halfords have a sale on some nice ones seen a good one there yesterday for under £90 bargain 8)
or this for under £40, my parents have this one http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_787755_langId_-1_categoryId_247401
i used a tom tom for a year and it was brilliant The only reason i dont use it now is because i cracked the screen forcing the glovebox door shut Does anyone know if you can get replacement screens?
Another vote for Tom Tom, i use it day in day out and its brilliant. Oh, and i have John Cleese giving me directions which is great
I do inexcess of 60k miles a year and have tried most sat navs, Garmen will get you there with some interesting detours thru one lane tracks, fords and farmers fields etc. Had TomToms now for the last 4 years and you wont find anything better.
I won a roadangel a few years ago for the 'star' letter in Autosport. After using it for a week I ebayed it (it was pants) and used the proceeds to by my tomtom go700. This has taken me off the beaten track all over in UK, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg, Spain, Andorra, Sweden, Norway, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Turkey, USA and Canada - I never leave home without it The only issue I have now is that after 7 years of daily service the battery only keeps its charge for about 1 hours use without the power cable - hardly a fault eh? Even has speed camera sites. They're smaller, lighter and thinner these days but why fix what aint broke?
I know we all hear of Garmin and Tomtom but i bought An aldi satnav four years ago and its brilliant, made by medion a german company, not well known here but no one buys tomtoms in germany they buy medion for most of there electronics, very well made and it speaks the directions, not just turn left or right but speaks the road or street name anywhere in europe
