Sandringham CCC site

  1. Just returned after spending 3 nights at the Camping and Caravan Club site in Sandringham Norfolk.

The site is larger than we had ever been to before, with potentially 275 pitches over 4 areas. The site has 2 wooded areas (where we stayed) and 2 open field areas.

There were 3 basic children play areas ( swings and slide) and 3 toilet blocks housing laundry, washing up area and male and female shower and toilet blocks as well as 1 family shower room each block. The toilets were kept fairly clean and it is obvious that the site staff try their best, but unfortunately most of the campers using this site do not know how to use a toilet brush!! (sorry to be so crude) or wipe the sinks after use etc! The queue for the washing up sinks was regularly 3 deep! and the female showers were much the same. Too many people not enough showers!

The worse thing about this site however is the people! Never before have I met a bunch of more miserable rude and down right unsociable campers. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not one to stop for a chat at every tent and caravan I pass, but a simple morning or afternoon as you pass one another, and a smile never goes amiss! People actively avoided eye contact ( like on the tube)!

Needless to say we will not be going back!

  2. Birdy

    Birdy Not Child Friendly

4 words "camping and caravan club" never will l actively seek one of those places. They are a Mecca for the people you mentioned.

  3. Sad but true Birdy.

I don't think we will ever visit another CCC site. Sorry all those white plastic boxes and BMW X5's were just too much for me!

  4. We had a rather different experience a few weeks earlier at Sandringham. We found the site spacious and friendly- we also has brilliant weather. Three other bays, two splitties and a T25 on site at the same time. We must have had a crowd that knew how to keep house as the facilities were very clean throughout the stay. Most folk were up for a "morning " or a nod, although my neightbour in a modist caravan took a couple of days to speak but once I got him into conversation he was a nice guy but very shy. This was made up for by his lovely daughter!
I had at least 6 people come up and asked about the bus. They all loved it and wished they had one (oh really!). One went back to his 20ft motohome and spoke to me every morning afterwards.
I am always finding reviews on hotels and campsites vary widely from person to person. The are probably all correct but just happen to have a different experience. We should remeber that home is not only where you park it, but also who you park it next to, and when you park it.. And that's where the variation comes in.

I will say I've had good and bad experiences on Caravan and Camping Club sites, Good and bad Gites when the kids were young, but I don't stop it letting me have a great time if I'm on holiday!
