Rusty stone chips?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by FifeBay, Jun 29, 2015.

  1. Starting to rub down the body and do the prep for paint, debt repair and filling etc.

There's only a few car park dings but the main problem is the rust that's formed under the stone chips and some scratches. It looks like freckles all over the surface. I'm just wondering if I should bare metal the panels affected or can I just wire brush out the rusty chips?

One thing I can see wrong with that is it will leave a low spot where they are.

    Thanks

if there are a lot, best to bare metal back to a flat surface and also see the true extent of the rust and get rid. A bare metalled panel is the nicest thing to paint.

  3. Thanks @zed looks like that will be my new plan. Most of the panels bellow the window line will need it but that's not a bad thing

When push comes to shove it's the quickest way to a flat surface to paint.

  5. What's the best way to get it to bare metal, Paint stripper?
