Inners are, outer aren't, depending on the proximity to seatbelt mounts etc

Yes he did. :( , and he always went back to his posts after a day or two and removed the pictures and diagrams he'd posted.

5. Thats rubbish, he needs to go reread the testers manual......'anything metal on a vehicle is classed as structual' o_O

Aren't we missing the point here?
Jacking points were an integral part of the van so you could lift the vehicle in case of a puncture as vw designed it. Who carries a trolley Jack around with them? Or maybe you rely on insurance cover. I have usable Jack points which have proven to be a lifeblood. Keeps you independent.

12. Tbh I don't mind replacing the riggers and jacking points on mine( cos I've already bought them) the riggers still have original paint on so they've lasted a while. I'm replacing the jacking points but I never use them.

13. you need to bend your mot man :D

14. If you don't mind driving up north I can weld you a set of jacking points in a day
Any pics of how yours are now?

15. if any part of a car or van is RUST EATEN OR HOLED , even if its not structural its a mot fail , simples mot in n ireland same as your but a lot more strict ,

16. Sorry Owen but that's not true in the uk

so sills arent an mot failure

19. My apologies yes you are
You have mentioned though your mot rules are different though

Let me give you an example
I had a rusty hole on the wing of my Passat and it failed the mot
Not on structural but on having a sharp edge that was a danger to pedestrians
A strip of strong tape and it passed

Would that be the same on your home town?

20. Top four pictures, nothing that would really upset the tester, just an advise..
058, 059 yes fail as long within 30 cm of seat belt mounting, seat mounting or suspension mounting or brake mounting.
Last two of the sills, fail if within 30cm ie prescribed areas..
Its really difficult for a layman to get his head round how the MOT rules work, just because you see rust or rot it doesn't mean a straight fail..TBH the rules change all the time and Im getting left behind having not tested for over two years. But running a garage that does, I see what goes on and talk with my testers daily..
