RR Bed

  1. Right - I have to make a decision. I've just splashed £2k on servicing and repairs but to be able to take the van out I need a bed. There is a wooden DIY job in the back that I can spruce up by buying new foam and making my own covers or I can splash even more for a pukka R&R jobbie. Now, I still have a budget (and Mrs Mabel is still with me on this) so would like to have a proper bed rather than do it myself. What is a decent price to supply and fit a bed with foam and covers and does anyone recommend anyone in the Essex area who can do it. Thanks in advance good people.

  2. are you after a full width or a 3/4? The cheapest option is a hinges and plywood job...easy to install, cheap and cheerfull...if you're looking for a 3/4, I've a really nice Devon Rn R for sale, blast cleaned and powder coated, complete with new boards, base, reupholstered cushions (in everglades pear mesh contract fabric) good to go...can be fitted on either the driver's or passenger's side....genuine reason for sale...PM if you're interested

  3. one of our LB guys is making RnR beds... have a look in the classifieds forum :)

as for who can fit it, try giving this guy a call :)

  4. What size are you after and what do you want to spend. If its a 3/4 yer after I can vouch for Vanorak's one - its a pukka devon one with all the bits, cushions, covers the whole 9 yards.

If you are on a budget then you could buy some JK hinges - I can let you have a set of plans so if you can do some wood bothering its not difficult or get a chippy to either cut it for you to assemble or put it together as per the instructions. I have a set of foams for a 3/4 I could be persuaded to part with.

It all depends what you want!

  5. Thanks folks - I need to go away and get straight in my head exactly what I want that's for sure. I think I'll be going for the cheaper option, I really can't afford to spend £1k plus on a bed. Thanks for letting me know about the bed Vanorak - I'll PM you if I'm interested. Have a good day.

  7. You could go down the hinges route but if you're big like me it will feel pretty flimsy.
the steel framed ones are much better they will cost you around £250 , get the foam online from efoam or similar sites for around £80 and then make the covers yourself. otherwise covers are around £250 and up depending on material.
Try the For sale pages or ebay aswell
I picked up my steel full width bed with foams and covers for £150

  8. I'm tempted to fab up a steel style one in ally... just as strong, but lighter ;)

I used a pair of old hinges from an prototype bay ...solid as you like just ted plywood, doubled up for the seat and back ...very solid!
