Hi, apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I've looked and can't find anything. The question is how much do the various pop tops add to the height of a bay? We're on the look out for a camper but (a) would like to keep it in the garage and (b) want to be able to sleep 4 to accommodate the grandchildren. A tin top will fit the current up and over garage door but a pop top would be more useful and so I'm resigned to changing to side hinged doors to gain some height. Still limited by the lintel though.....
I think the standard Devon roof is the lowest profile followed by the Westfalia roof. The Devon does have a vent on it that adds height, but could possibly be removed. The Westfalia adds about 175mm to the roof height
I think a Devon would be about 2000mm high. Mine is lowered, I measured it as 1900mm. It would fit in the garage if that was not 100% rammed with bits of camper.. With a roofrack it was 2050mm , tested in a car park at Ross-on-Wye once with 2.05m on the barrier. It went in but came out with a bang... they had repaired the tarmac in the exit under the barrier but the entrance side was still worn.
A tin top will barely go in most garages so unless your garage is higher than most then it most likely won’t fit , measurements of your garage would help
I think my Westy is about 6’7 normally. I lowered it to around 6’4” or so to get in my barn door type garage and under 6’6” / 2m car parks and ferries. It never made it into the garage as that was filled with bikes and everything else that a garage is filled with. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks, some useful info there! For the record, the door aperture is 1.94m high at the moment and with a bit of judicious trimming and rehanging of the fibreglass door I could get to 1.99-2.0m. Changing to side opening doors but keeping the existing frame gets me to 2.13m and taking it out to the lintel is 2.23m.
