Sorry to hear of your loss, it’s such a bum time. Too many dads have gone this year, I guess we’re now at that age where the greats fall around us

  6. To lose a parent is a very sad day, treasure happy memories and that you had a good relationship with him. RIP. My father passed away many years ago, I was grateful to have spent a good amount of time with him in his last few years, it some sense makes it more difficult, but as time passes you'll be pleased of it.

Thank you all for your kind comments. My condolences and a big hug to those who have also lost their parents.

I was very proud of my dad who was kind and caring and also had a v random sense of humour. :)

I still feel v let down by the hospital care and think he was taken before his time. I would recommend anyone with elderly parents to try and keep them out of hospital if at all possible as it’s delirium that has the worst effect, and then the lengthy processes to get the discharge procedures moving, all the while whilst the patient is deteriorating and therefore moving the goal posts constantly.

on reflection, although I’m sad and angry that dad had to spend two months on a horrible ward I think myself and siblings tried our best for him. He was also relaxed and peaceful in his final week out in the nursing home, and they allowed us to visit. To be fair the hospital also allowed us in to feed dad, so at least we spent time with him.

I shall remember all the good times and do my best to honour dad by living my life as dad did. To be honest, kind, caring, loyal, treating everyone as an equal, and being able to laugh at myself.

I draw the line at liking sweet and sour, not liking beer, supporting the Villa and in a weirdo manner saying my god is Louis Armstrong:)

Making dad come to the Rollright Stones with me, and us threatening to punch each other at my nieces wedding :)
