I don’t like reproduction parts tbh, think I’d rather stick with the one I have and try to get it panel beaten?! like I said I’m not interested in a show winner just don’t want the carpet or flooring in the back soaked due to a big gap in the door!!
I bet somewhere someone has a really decent one sat in their dusty old garage not realising the price .I have a unwelded one as a spare and although it needs basic prep work and just a small plate welded in 6x6cm max it's in great order . I got lucky about 2 years ago on eBay and at the time could not really afford it but i am glad I did buy it ! I think I paid around £300ish.
Quite a few more now up on eBay .All needing work but prices seem to be very fair.Like i said before what is needed is a retired and bored sheet metal worker to work his magic .
The problem being that one would also need a never welded bus to get them right while trying not to damage the never welded buses paint etc. You'd need to be tacking at a minimum with it fitted and adjusted and probably have it on and off several times during the process. Then you'd have people with nice shiny buses that were no longer the exact correct shape complaing it didn't fit. See. Put myself off already despite knowing I could do it. It's not worth the potential agro.
Fully understand ! so the quest is to find the best RHD sliding door with original paint and never repaired or welded.Lord Lucan interview may be easier.
The problem is most are made to a cost rather than to a standard, this was once looked into by someone I know that imports Mustang car parts, he has them made. The cost worked out at about £100 a door a few years back plus the tooling that was a £100k !
Hi, Is the one I am selling any use to you? The only reason it wasn’t used was that we decided to keep the original one as that was a bus type and not a panel conversion. Even then it required inner lower section, wide panel repair and the window sections doing - a lot of work
I’ve got this if any good to you had lower repair but still needs work open to offers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Theres a company down honiton restoring buses... They do cabin door skins up to the swage line bit.. They also have the panel above the sliding door runners complete with the lower angle where it drops down into the recess... Im awaiting two from their next batch. Will update you all in my build log when i get them. NB Restorations on fb Sent from my YAL-L41 using Tapatalk
So my converted panel van rear panels are sooo messed up and the channel rotted so I'm going back to panel on the rear panels with rear window and twin sliding door windows Sent from my YAL-L41 using Tapatalk
Quite a nice idea and that bit darker at night when sleeping .One question do panel vans have glass in their tailgates ?
