Buy the best one you can but finding one rust free is a massive ask !

  4. Mines a 74 camper, window recess!
I’ve got one on my project but the monkey that done the lower 6 inches must’ve been drunk...I’m thinking of taking it to another welder to re-do the repair....but not sure it’s salvageable!!

  5. There is one on eBay. But think it’s a late bay £99 needs a bit of work but might be easier than yours

I personally have never seen a sliding door lower repair that is not perfect .Most seem to jut out at the bottom. It is easy to weld a panel onto the door but getting the alignment correct is another thing.

These are the panels I had to choose from. It doesn't help!
The answer lies about halfway between the two.

I had some absolutely flawless welding when my repair sections were put in and it looked 100% but come aligning the door it was not right ! satisfactory but not right !

That door will have been on and off quite a few times during that simple repair. Once it goes wrong it stays wrong. If you look hard enough at my finished pic it's not perfect.

What do you think the answer is to a great job ? .The correct repair panels ? I can weld a panel on but I am no sheet metal worker .If someone could get this right and achieve a decent repair it would be a nice little sideline earner for them.

That is a big difference between the two! Who does the best repair panel ?

I’ve been impressed with all the bits I’ve had off Autocraft. If you follow them on Instagram they do a weekly glimpse of panels they make, lots of them are finished by hand and compared to NOS panels before they leave the shop.

Mine came out ok, although with it painted and on with the seal it sticks out a bit in that corner. Might need adjusting again!

It's been a while so I wouldn't like to say. That almost flat one made me laugh though - then order that other one - which had too much bend. Sometimes you just can't win but the curved one was easier to make right.

  15. I don’t want a perfect bus, it’s going to be toured in (if ever things go back to normal) but when I pay someone to do something it should be done well or even tried to be done well, surely?!!

Exactly ! My bus when I finish it is there to be used and not a show bus .The guy that repaired my door really done his best and I am happy with his effort .

Do you have a link as I’m literally stunned if that’s true.

OK and I mean that with ‘high in the sky Apple pie hopes’ levels of optimism on the OK ones, were going for £400 a few years ago.

I bought second hand one from ‘bigger than large’Bug, a company I’ve only ever been happy with that was bent as hell, the whole door for around the £300 mark maybe 10 years ago.

  20. Realistically a decent unnrepaired door will. Fetch up to £1000 ion the open market
I sold one on here to a member for just under that and dealers were asking for up to £2,500 for doors nowhere as good
Must be a market for reproduction ones now surely
