We have owned Sofia our camper for over 9 years now and have been carrying out repairs and improvements over the years of ownership. The major bodywork and paintwork were completed within the last 4 years where the bus was off the road for 18 months. Sofia is a 1976 Devon conversion and has been repainted back to the original colour she left the factory with of Pastel White over Tiaga Green. Believe it or not the curtains where one of the first things we replaced and in a way led the theme as we progressed along. Parts were repaired as we went along until the major work completed in 2017 and list of all the works are below but whilst writing this I am thinking I have probably missing other items. Bodywork New front panel & support panel Repairs to bottom of A pillars & deformation panel Inner steps both sides and near side wheel arch complete All for jacking points and outriggers Repairs to floor and cross member All inner & out cills both sides Front section of rear wheel arches Near side rear quarter panel full New inner & outer valence Panel above engine lid and above rear hatch Both battery trays and closing panels Lower offside quarter panel Repairs to rear doglegs Replacement of both bottom of D pillars Repair to nearside rear corner roof junction/quarter panel Sliding door skin and bottom channels inside & out Replacement doors with new door skins Replaced engine lid & rear hatch All rubber removed and window corners replaced all round Repairs to sliding track and new cover pieces Full strip back and respray Roof removed, fibreglass repaired and painted New ‘Proud to Pop’ roof canvas fitted Bespoke vinyl wrap to roof and bumpers with UV clear protection film to match the curtains but with VW twist If the bumpers and roof finish are not to your taste they can easily be put back to stock colour. (same applies for the bumpers) Interior The old Devon interior had seen better days but we liked the layout so copied it in Zebrano laminate with Green Corian tops. All the cushions to the rear units where matched to a colour in the curtains and buddy box made to suit. Front seats were repaired and covered in matching fabric all by profession upholsterers. All interior panels replaced in crème vinyl panels with sound deadening & insulation. The missing interior roof lining was replaced in 3mm ply which was white washed and sealed both sides in varnish and new interior LED light fitted. A basic 110v Hook up installed under the RnR bed with double socket extension under the seat. We have a rear overhead locker unit in the same finish but after the main works decided not to re install it and will be included in the sale. We have kept the original sink kept but have rarely used it but have the original pump still fitted. Original Swing out bunk beds in the roof we had the frames shot blasted and powder coasted white. The original funky orange material remains and has been professionally repaired. New Dometic vents installed to the Pop-top Roof Spare wheel and fits in original recess at the back hidden away with original cover. The 3/4 Rock & roll bed has one 3point seat belt and one lap belt installed and the front seat belts replaced with 3-point inertia type. 4 New Fusion speakers running to CD Radio unit in the dash Engine & Running Gear Engine has been rebuilt unit with replacement heads, new oil cooler, push rod tubes and all seals. New manifolds and twin ICT carbs and central throttle control fitted, and engine all professionally set up on a rolling road. All tin ware was replaced or powder coated. New fuel lines installed last year and Blaze cut fire extinguisher fitted to the engine bay. All flexible brake hoses where replace along with new rear cylinders and break shoes, 1 new and 1 refurbished calliper’s up front with new discs and pads, New beam from JK, new tie rods, ball joints, drag link and refurbished steering box. Gear link bushes replaced. All wheels where shot blasted and powder coated. (Set of Porsche replica Fuchs wheels and tyres not included) General It has been regularly serviced every year and kept garaged for the last 9+ years since we have owned it. The Camper has historic vehicle classification, meaning that it is road tax and MOT exempt. However for peace of mind we have had it MOT tested every year since it became exempt, and it will be sold with a new test from a reputable garage. All fuel lines and filter replaced with correct hose 1 year ago. This is an excellent example of Volkswagen’s T2 bay window in the best 70’s colour! The camper is very reliable with a few bespoke features to stand out from the norm. Please remember this is a vehicle from 1976 and even in excellent condition, there are some minor imperfections as she is 45 years old. She will come with a large history file with MOTs back to the 90’s and containing £1000’s of receipts. Also supplied with a zip file containing 100’s of photo showing the repair works. The camper will also come with the following items in the sale Complete VW T2 breathable campervan cover (JK) Canvas side day awning Haynes manual and various spares and service items Bespoke Hamper Overhead rear locker unit Overall, it really has to be viewed in person to appreciate the condition and would welcome any serious potential buyers for viewings. Located in the SP10 Hampshire area and the asking price is £22,450 and open to offers in person.
Photo is a type 1, so I’m guessing 1600cc as no ‘improvements’ are mentioned. Twin carbs though, so maybe 1776cc? Definitely a lovely looking bus
Thanks all for the comments and it is a 1600cc with twin carbs which has been set up professionally. Expensive but worth it
Thanks @paulcalf , I should have put that up at the beginning Im located in Hampshire close to the Berkshire border SP10 postcode area.
All the fuel lines and filter where replaced last year, all tank breather connections, fuel filler neck and sender replaced when the tank was out before we put the engine back in (approx 3 years ago). All locks and handles have been replaced except the ignition but have replaced the ignition switch as well.
Great van for the right buyer. Some people may be put off by the bumper & roof finish. Id be tempted to put something like: If the bumpers and roof finish are not to your taste they can easily be put back to stock colour. You want to appeal to the widest possible audience. Having just helped my friends find and buy a camper, its amazing what makes people rule vans in or out.
Thanks @paulcalf, I know what you mean and generally there have been more positive reactions to the wrap than not but not everybody will like it. Pictures of the roof and bumpers pre wrap and thanks again for your help.
NOW SOLD and gone to a good home and the owner liked the vinyl wrap details I am now officially no longer a member of the 'Bay' club but hope to have a new project soon.
