Removable/replaceable air filter stand

  1. Has anyone made their stock air filter stand removable/replaceable rather than just chopping it out for twin carbs
If so how did you go about it?
    Any pics would be great

I've seen them hung from the roof with cable ties. Not ideal.
The answer though is yes though was an oil bath stand. I chopped it just above where it was welded onto the van then added a bridging plate to screw it back on when I put the1600 back in to sell it. Your paper filter stand is probably not so easy but I expect you can figure something out.

Mine was missing for years I managed to get one so welded it on and then a year later fitted twin carbs And now it’s just in the way.

  5. Once the vw meets are on again I’ll look out for one and try adapt it to bolt on,never know, might fit twin carbs one day

  7. I’m getting ready to paint the engine bay
When the engine goes in I’ll be running the stock carb but at a later date I may upgrade to twin carbs

So it makes sense to modify it to make it removable/replaceable now whilst the engines out and before I paint the engine bay
Then if I do upgrade to twin carbs at a later date it will be just a case of unbolting it.

  8. You should be able to make it removable, mebbe by welding in small mounting plates in the sides. Good idea if you may move to twins in the future.

  9. I’ve given it a good looking at today and made some quick cardboard templates.
