I think the issue is not that the hole has got bigger, but that the new bushes are smaller (for Brazilian busses).
Make a metal plate with the correct sized hole in it. Drill out the old hole so the bushing clears it. Fit new plate with e.g. four bolts. Fit bushing. Or while you are at it find some kind of nylon bushing, make a tube to fit that fixed to the new plate instead of the silly little bits of plastic...
I think we've all shown great restraint Flange, bush, muff coupler, Brazilian. I'm surprised @scrooge95 hasn't mentioned her tomatoes yet. Well done, everybody!
Paul, in case you hadn't realised, a lot of the above posts are about the later type of front bush. Yours should be fine when you've changed it. The rear one does look a bit loose, you might even get away with tightening the through bolt a bit. Just go carefully and don't strip the thread.
..there’s some play in it but seen lot worse tbh..but that coupler grub screw needs securing with some wire Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I can't believe I missed this up til now... so much innuendo in one thread, it's like all my favourite 'Carry On' films rolled into one For the record, I've done both my front bush and the rear coupling thing, neither of which caused too much swearing. I think the front bush was fairly tight already, mind (not too much wear and tear) and it just needed some softening in hot water so that it pushed in the hole easier. *snigger*
A squirt of WD40 often helps Definately a fact that Brazilian front bushes are smaller than German ones.
That video was after i had tightened it. I'll try again carefully The new to me 5/16" spanner is seeing some action good for the dell throttle linkage and now this!
Genuine q's not innuendo related. Is yours the early frontguide sleeve/ bush like mine? How hard was it to do and any tips please. I assume it can only be done with the gear stick, spring, plate etc being removed first, rather than just undoing screw 23, moving it out the way and putting a new guide sleeve in (10) ? 2 person job? Cheers
Yes, you won't get it off that spike at the front otherwise. Easiest to have the front gear rod in your hand to change the bush, it's not heavy though, 1 person job.
Haha, no innuendo, mine is the later bush that looks like a ring donut with a groove all the way around it. I took the gear lever mechanism apart from above, and I think then took the front rod out of the way. It was a while ago, so I can’t remember exactly. I definitely did it by myself though, no need for two people. I should really have a little looksie to make sure it’s still holding up okay as it’s been a few years.
