  2. Since qatar were awarded the World Cup 6500 migrant workers have died in the country! 37 of them working on stadiums and infrastructure for the event itself. Add your human rights issues onto that and why wouldn’t you want to go!!! I bet I get dragged in but I’d like to think I could give the whole thing a miss. I desperately hope we perform badly and come home soon. Knowing my luck we will win it!

  3. There's to much money sloshing around and lining the pockets of FIFA officials.

Season ticket holder LFC. Never been interested in England save for 1966 whenI was too young to know better.
Won’t be watching any of it. Hope we are knocked out at the earliest opportunity. I support Joe Lycett’s challenge to that total hypocrite Beckham……
Thank goodness we have such upstanding respected figures such as Sepp Blatter calling this circus out :D:D
    Feel better now

  5. Becks has shown himself up for the shallow half wit he is… was this ever in doubt?

Imagine how much if he had 100% wits about him ( I’m no mathematician :))
I really can’t understand why he would want to risk his reputation ( which is generally ok ) for this. Though perhaps his agent could give 10 million reasons. His equally hypocritical ex team mate Neville has also taken the Qatari blood token.

  8. If it is £10m I'd guess its because he wasn't very bright. Mind I have just googled and some are saying it could be as much as £150m.

Just goes to show no matter how rich you are, the lure of a big payday (in his case) wins out.

    Perhaps ?..
His intention is to be very philanthropic and pass all of the money to worthy institutions, but his contract prohibits him from saying this openly :D:D;)

  11. My interest in football doesn't go much beyond the England team. This time, I hope they come home early. The whole thing is disgusting.

  12. It's called greed !!

  13. Normally I'm absolutely buzzing with anticipation on the eve of a World Cup but I can barely muster a flicker of interest in this one. The location and the time of year has killed it for me I'm afraid:(

Thankfully theres the excitement of the mighty Cobblers promotion push in League 2 to focus on:chewie:

Normally I would be getting excited about the World Cup but at the moment I have no interest, I expect I will be start watching when it’s on but I think it’s an appalling show of how much massive wealth can allow you to dictate and/or change the rules with no reprisals:(

I am disappointed in Gary Neville and his losing his left wing ideals for the filthy lucre. Ian Hislop had a good response on HIGNFY :)

As a gayo I feel I should be ignoring it on principle (as well as their other human rights record) but as a shallow football fan I may end up watching some

  15. Ian Hislop hit the nail fairly square on the head I felt .....fair play too him , Neville just an attention seeker who thinks he'd be better at politics then being a pundit , you've got to have beliefs and morals Nev....oh hang on no politicians do so your prob do alright lol

  16. I am conflicted. Love football, but everything about the awarding of the WC to the nature of the state of Qatar, its treatment of migrant workers, and view of LGBTQ issues etc. are at odds with what I believe in. I will be tuning in I think, but I may not stay tuned in. Still not sure how I feel or how I will react.
