  3. Doesn't look too shabby to me.
How is the 1.9wbx? Don't even attempt to remove the head to replace that pushrod tube unless it also needs removing for another reason too. You're just asking for trouble (snapped head studs are a b1tch). Replace it with a spring loaded one instead.

Zebedee already ordered the replacement, its not springloaded i dont think.... i thought it was just remove the rocker shaft then slide rod out and replace? [IMG]
can i not just compress the concertina ends slightly? or is this going to be a nightmare? lost-en-france cheers buddy.

  8. you need a telescopic one mate ,they are expensive but maybe worth it ,you push the ends of the normal one and they will not return...

  9. Unfortunately they are not like a type 4 bay engine, they are just the same as type 1 bay or beetle engine and can only be fitted once the head is removed. If the coolant that's been used is the proper vw recommended stuff you should be ok but the cheap coolant doesn't have the anti corrosion properties the wbx needs so the headstuds rot and snap off.
Barsteward of a job to drill them out when they snap too. :(

  13. If its topcoated in household gloss is it blackboard paint?:p

You can probably jetwash most of the blue off if it comes off by hand. Quicker than picking it off.;)

well i was looking forward to my pushrod tube turning up today considering i paid for next day delivery with vw heritage but it still isnt here. so rubbish. oh well, hopefully i get it on monday and hopefully i get my postage charge back. all i wanna do is take it for a quick spin.

spent most of the afternoon chasing wires to their source and changing headlight bulbs and fuses cos i couldnt get them to work. my mate came over and said, is the switch broke, i said no look (then showed him it switching fine) and he pointed out to me very kindly and politely that i was using the foglamp switch to which i have none, and that the headlamp switch was on the other side of the pod. sweet. dont feel like a nobby at all.

on a lighter note, my pushrod tube was lost in the post and got another arriving tomorrow hopefully.

Foglight switch works the rear foglight in the rear light cluster, so you will have one. Only works with the headlights on though.

  18. Should be fun to see a paint job go away with the spray of water, (if that's what you're going to do). Keep going and keep us up to date with the pic's Thanks!

midmusq yes i will be trying that method soon. hopefully i do not get too much ingress through the seals as they do not have the insert in for some reason.
