Is there anything wrong with putting the locking nut on this side of the block? Normally it is underneath bit with it this side I can set it like a non adjustable cranked spring arm to test the spline position. That make sense? Plus I worry with the bolt on the underside that it would vibrate off.

No. It won't vibrate off. Put it back the right way.

Is it wrong to have it on top though? I mean will it affect it?

It's not how it was designed. The head is hollow. Probably yes until you want to adjust itv a bit in 6 months and find the head is mullered. Ask our resident materials tester @MorkC68  He gets to see lots of broken things.

might just leave it temporarily to set up the height and make sure i have rotated splines correctly etc. then i will put it back on the other side later. I had to put it there to get the spring plate level with the spline half so i could see how far off it is from the original plate position mark.

Bled brakes tonight and fitted other spring plate too. Hopefully i might be getting somewhere now. Going to put wheels on tomorrow and see where we are at height wise. Took bump stops off for the moment to see where we land travel-distance wise.

Yeah, yeah, but tell him why he should put the bolt the right way up. :)

@Baysearcher or any mods would you be so kind as to move this thread to another part of the forum? I want to use it as the thread for my bus, also so that people can post on it. If its a pain i will just have to start a new one, but i thought i best start documenting from here so i can look back. I changed the title. thats all i can do. . .

I doubt it will matter, the more i think about it it is just a locking nut isnt it? to prevent the grub/allen bolt from moving?

But i am definitely open to guidance on the matter.

If the threads get bruised over n over it'll make a right old mess!!

Then there's £500 in oil, £250 in filters, disconnection from the 3 phase, suppressor kit..no insurance. We put 25 years worth of life in the pump in 4 years! Our MD was okay with the failure, we have a second identical unit that's likely to breakdown

Sorry Phil, it was you photo, I thought you had switched the bolt round! I looked back a page at another pic and see it's not a bolt, it's a big grub screw and a locking nut.
    As you were, it's fine.

It looks like a bolt but then my glasses are in the car..it's raining outside :D but zooming in I can see it's a grub screw.. Dohhhh!

so im good to keep it like that? i thought i was clever enough to make an informed decision after all, but i am not an engineer. I just play with wood all day.

I've tried both, wood is less forgiving, no room for error or it's scrap. :)

I think it's only on the bottom to allow more adjustment?
