Propex heatsource hs2000 gas question

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Stan, Jan 9, 2015.

  1. To help make van more useable and appealing to other half I will be going for the Propex option.
But just wondered what everyone does re gas feed?
Do you have a seperate bottle for it or feed off the same as one for cooker?
Think I would prefer 2 bottles in case one runs out you can swop the other one? Reading the info on them they recon that propane gas lets it run for longer than the butane? Is there much of a difference or not worth the faff?
    Thanks in advance.

We just have the one bottle which feeds the heater and the cooker. I've tucked a tiny backpacking stove in the van because the gas is only ever going to run out after you've set up for the night and the awnings pitched and the shops are shut.
The backpacking stove will give you hot drinks and keep you fed till the morning and then you can get a refill almost anywhere.
We don't use our heater overnight because with a good quilt you don't need to and a medium gas bottle lasts us the best part of a year and a half.

Just read the last bit of your post re butane and propane. There is a difference, one will work better at very low temperatures but I can never remember which one it is and I can't even remember which one we have without going and looking but it's the blue bottle.

  4. Great thanks for the top tip. I was going to get one of those things with the spray can sized bottle , they are really cheap.
Camping gaz Is blue and its butane I think? I have the 907 sized 2.75kg bottle lasted me for ages so far but just cooking? Ok so a split valve doodar?
Do you have a gas sensor also?

  6. Are you just going for the gas version, only I've been looking into these for a while and @Razzyh mentioned he wished he'd gone for the '2000E' version to give the 240 capability so he didn't run out of gas when hookup was available?

  7. Propane works better at lower temps

  8. Yes probably just the 12v gas version. The electric one is really REALLY expensive considering? I am not sure I want to stick mine under the bed might put it front part of cab area? I made a storage box between the front seats a while back (walk through model) so its a natural place for it? You can just see it in this pic?

  9. I am sure someone else put theirs in a box in the walkthrough, can't remember who though unfortunately! Why not the under the rnr bed? Is it the space used or that you want heat nearer the cab area?

  10. Yes I saw that post under the drivers seat neat idea but I have that storage box and I only use it for spares and tools and emergency chocolates!
I would rather save the space under rock and roll bed for other stuff, you can get a fair bit under there. As you know they are not the biggest vans are they?

I'm not convinced its worth the extra money. If you're on a hookup just take a little electric fan heater as well.

  12. Yes, I see what you mean and I considered several options for mine. In the walkthrough it's going to be a permanent full fixture, where as in the back you have the choice to move the box should you wish to. I use this space to put slabs of beer, a cool box or fishing rods. I put mine under the bed in the end and ran a tube under the bus to the walkthrough vent. After all, it uses the same amount of room wherever it is!

  13. Exactly, plus I am funny about having a gas fired heater on through the night? A small oil
Filled rad on a hook up costs buttons and I would feel a bit happier with that on instead? I might just be paranoid but I have my 5 year old daughter in the van.

  14. Interesting? Is it big enough, that vent is a small slit? Do you lose heat underneath or have you insulated the tube also?

  15. Good point, especially bout it being on under the bed through the night. I still don't know what I want in mine yet furniture wise but still time to think. Lots to do still and gotta get the list ticked off before I even contemplate heating of this nature.

  18. I used a length of exhaust tube with a couple of exhaust clips to secure it in the cross members (the spare holes in these were a perfect place). This was insulated with large diameter pipe insulation. This was connected each end with the flexi property tube, all insulated. It gives a good blast of warm air through the vent. I may lose a little air flow because of the bends to get through the floor but the heat is fab! If I were doing it now the underslung units are available I would do the same again but with one of those. I don't get heat in the cab but that was not what I wanted. I wanted Max heat in the rear.
