  6. Have not done much for a whilst, been "requested" for jury service, which ment I missed out on my week of nights and a week of lates from work, which is when I get time at home for bus work. :(

Decided to set upon the front beam today, there's a couple of rot holes on there so it needs to come off, and I want to paint it so it's nice and shiny

    Bus up

Steering linkage and hand brake released
    [IMG]

Next was the gear selector arm
    [IMG]

Took advantage of the summer holidays , here is today's apprentice james
    [IMG]

Also drained the brake fluid using and disconnected the brake lines from the calipers ready for another attempt tomorrow

  7. Today went well, disconnected the remaining MC and servo pipes and hoses,
The 4 bolts each side removed, and after reading how heavy the beam was, I thought it would drop out really easily so I had the jack underneath so I could carefully lower it to the ground, WRONG!
It took a couple of hours of bearing with a hammer, spraying with WD 40 and lots of levering unroll it finally surrendered
    [IMG]

There are a few holes on the left hand side, but nothing that I think can't be repaired
    [IMG]

    Arch removal tomorrow weather permitting

  8. It's taken me a while to get round to reading your thread ::)

looks like a good project with rot in all the right places ;D

..........I can definatly feel your pain of having to work out side, I can highly recommend rustbuster products (epoxy mastic and custom primer) as they are not porus. As I was working out side I had to make sure I got every thing coated before the weekend was over to make sure it didnt start rusting again! .......even in your shelter you will get damp/condensation so its worth keeping all the new metal covered

the rustbuster stuff isnt cheap but its worth the money if you ask me...........and it doesnt react with any existing paints and can be painted over with any other paint product :)

    http://www.rust.co.uk/popup.cfm?p_i=501025&p_n=501025

your making great progress..........and its great to see the whole family involved too  :), but dont burn your self out though

looks like those early PO welds didnt use any gas! shocking.

as for welding, your doing a good job and you'll be an expert once you've finished and you get to know which settings work best with your welder

keep up the good work I'll be watching for updates :)

    K+ for posting

  9. cheers diddymen, those products look like exactly what i need, learned about the pourus-nes of primer the hard way, hence the rusty primer front panel, iv been using a zinc galv spray as a tempoary covering and seems to be doing the trick at the mo but i will invest in both of them, anything to try to keep the rust away is well worth investing imo
    thanks
iv been using all the people i can find to give me a hand, even a guy across the road wants to help when i come to getting the body work flat, aint going to refuse that lol

here are todays efforts, spent a fe hours with the angle grinder today getting the other side arch off

    before
    [IMG]

4 layer floor, at least it was consistant with the other side
    [IMG]

    after
    [IMG]

this will need a bit of work, no where near as much as the other side though, the inner seals look good thankfully
    [IMG]

  10. Well I was wrong, this arch and seal needs as much work as the other did

    The removal
    [IMG]

    Here's what Iv got left
    [IMG]

Jacking arm removed, rotten top hat cut away, the floor has survived, b pillar hasn't. Iv been to see the nice guys at custom&commercial today and have sorted me out with a lovely made jacking arm, b pillar and a length of I section for the rear

    More pics to follow tomorrow

  11. brings back memories lol keep up the good work owen nw ;)

  12. I love it " LUST FOR RUST" Keep up the good work

  13. Yea there is just soo much rust, I'm glad I started digging in there I was debating weather to or not. More work now but hopefully less work later on down the line

    Here are my new purchases
    [IMG]

Looks like quite a nice part, well made

    B pillar
    [IMG]

    And I beam section
    [IMG]

No more work done today as we're off camping this weekend in a tent! Can't wait for our first with the bus, maby next year even if I am being a little optimistic!

  14. Been a very slow week, haven't had any time to get under the bus yet but I have managed to reverb one of the roof hinges
One of the hinge arms was completely rotten and by the looks of it was a home made replacement with untreated steel. Iv made new ones from stainless tube and flattened the ends down, let's see if that'll rust

  15. nice 8)

  16.
  17. Today was cab floor day, been looking to what I was going to find under here

    More plates
    [IMG]

Surely this is a bit OTT on the plate side of life
    [IMG]

The bus will be much lighter once I get around to removing all the bodged patches and plates

    Arch trial fitted
    [IMG]

Need to do a little more work to the a and b pillar then were good to go

  18. That floor looks nasty!!

Well done with ur progress, dont diss ur welding mate looks fine, iam the same untidy but lots of weld so solid and lots of grinding off ;-)

  19. Looking good mate
The welding will come with practice, you'll be an expert once you finish >:D

  20. Cheers guys, Iv just been looking at some of the amazing work going on here in the other resto threads, and comparing my work to them, hopefully hopfully I'll get there, still learning as I go

Have pretty much finished the b pillar now, the welds need a bit more of a clean up
