  1. thats a shame about your welder dieing fella, just hope the one im using will hold out untill if finished

im using a migmate 130 it seems to be doing the trick when in the right hands. im going to have another practice in a bit

my gazebo has arrived so ill be putting that up tomorrow and will be uggys new home for a while. once its done ill look into a perminant dry storage space for it to live

  2. Gazebo all built up, just the right size. Enough room to work around the bus inside and no need for the tarp any more,

    All tucked away,

Did my first major welding job today too, and no more gaping holes into the cabin area, still lots of work to do around the area, more repair plates to make and welds to grind down

Mostly a good day, but did discover that some scrote has helped himself to my spare alloys for the daily, so I'm a bit upset about that at the mo,

I'm a believer in Karma tho, I'm sure said thief will get what they deserve one day

  3. Glad to see those previous repairs being removed and the rot cut out dude

One step at a time and it will soon add up

  4. Nice work, glad the pics were of some help 8)

  5. Pics were a huge help mate,

Paradox, I'm hoping that's the case. Just waiting to get some more gas for the welder at the mo so work has haunted a bit, don't want to cut too much away without putting enough back.

Also had a wander down to battlesbridge yesterday to gather a bit of inspiration and to get a bit of an idea on how to put uggy back together again

A few more areas to look at, these have been cut out and new plates made to weld into place

  6. It's been a slow week for project uggy, the regulator failed whilst welding and dumped the remainder of my c02, and finding somewhere to get it refilled was pretty much impossible,

After days of searching and ringing around I found a fire extinguisher company in Leigh-on-sea that sold bottles that they refill in house

(pub bottles now carry a huge fine if caught refilling unofficially)

It's only C02 not the argon mix that I ideally wanted but seems to work ok with my very amateurish welding

Once the bottle was acquired I was then on the hunt for a new reg, which I have been waiting to arrive through the post, and today was the day, along with this wibbly lump of metal

It's a repo I didn't want to go down this route but I couldn't get a genuine arch any where, and yes it dies look as bad as its reputation.

Today's mission was to tackle the rust that was on the bulkhead and centre of he seat,

Managed to keep the profile of the panel too, quite hard to see in the pic

Next job was to take the old step off, the step looked pretty new but there was loads of repairs done here that judging by the previous work I found, I wanted rid of
    [IMG]

Step Lip bent back, pocket of rust!

Time to hunt the site and google images for how this bit should look like now, and investigate the cab floor plates, I can see a new cab floor on my shopping list too

I know what your thinking, PO put a new GO pedal in RESULT!!!

One less bit to buy.

But I'd have waited for the real arch and done something else in the meantime. There aren't all that many "good" panels available for a bay and it cheers you up no end to fit the odd one. :)

  8. I just fitted a new arch (repro panel as well and wasn't too bad much as I have been moaning about it!) The but you are looking at should just be a flat metal floor by the step.

Your old arch was put in wrong I think with the lip over the floor. The lip from the step should be under the floor panel and you can then spot weld after drilling through the floor.

You may need to bend and cut a few bits off the new panel to get it to fit. I had to use a jack and block of wood after tacking it in to bend it out to fit the door profile

    Cheers

  10. another update of todays work, - should have gone to bed this afternoon as im on the night shift this week but i decided to get cracking

and as it turns out the cab floor on the drivers side actually had 4 skins, think how much lighter itl be with only one ^-^

was a shame to cut the under tray our as it had been welded really nice, just in the wrong place

also decided to trail fit the repo arch

dosnt fit too badly, it will need work but ill see if i can live with it,

im happy with todays efforts, got a new floor pan on the way and now its time for bed!

  11. That gazebo looks very useful. Is it the 3m x 6m sized one (10ft x 20ft for the old folks)?

Looks like you've got your work cut out cutting out the rot. ;)

Wow those creases round the step on that repro panel are shocking.

  12.
  13. You need to put your door back on and check the line up of the arch with the step and also the profile at the door bottom...I put the arch in the vice to get rid of the crinkles.

    How many layers of patches!!

    Good work by the way.

    Cheers

As Dr Ben says - hang the door, get the gaps round the sides and tops even and door shutting flush, then fit the arch to that.

  16. dont worry, i'll get that door on before i do any real fitting, i was just curious to see if it fitted as it wouldnt go with the lower floor pan in place,

iv got a feeling that tomorrow is going t be a challenging day in the gazebo, lots of head scratching and tweaking

  17. Where did you buy that arch?

It looks awfull even for a repro or is that the standard of panels nowadays?

  19. its been a bit of slow progress lately, been spending most of my time at work and the rest of the time asleep,

have managed to get the repo arch in, took a bit of thinking on how to get it to sit right but managed it in the end

treated and painted the chassis rails underneath
    [IMG]

cut away the part of the floor pan that i didnt want and tacked it into place

made a few various plates to weld into place to join the wheel arch to the floor

my welding has got a little better still not pretty, so its angle grinder time once the weather has cooled a bit

  20. Finally got the cab floor finished, no more holes that are not ment to be there and no overlapping plates

Had to do a bit of work on the A pillar, that got under way last night, and also filled in a bit between the fire wall and seat belt mount,
Will try to get pics up of them

Room delivery of a new step for the pas side and have a inner front panel that meets the windscreen to collect
PO decided it didn't need one so didn't bother fitting it
So small progress but progress none the less
