What amazes me is how they get Keir Starmer to talk. I can't see the strings.

It’s reassuring that we’ve finally learnt from the likes of Korea and New Zealand and have locked the borders.....no one allowed to even get on a flight from point of destination untested, and tested as they arrive here.

Similar to other Top tier economies such as Sri Lanka, arrivals will be sprayed with disinfectant and temp tested.

Look at all these potential carriers arriving in to Heathrow just this morning over a 40 minutes.

I’m delighted we’ve learnt our lesson.

I’m completely incorrect about our esteemed leaders, apparently my leftist leaning and reading of incorrect newspapers has blinded me to the excellent job being done at the top.

My suspicion that sending 3m school kids in for one day having told parents schools were safe then changing their minds 24hrs later, is yet another sick experiment in herd immunity (or utter ineptitude) is completely wrong. I mean, no way would that one act help massively spread this thing.

Silly me. Let’s get behind Boris and team.

  13. I was disappointed he didn't reveal the startling new evidence regarding schools that made him go from insisting they are perfectly safe and kids absolutely must go to closing with immediate effect 36 hours later:thinking:

It's almost as if they're making it up as they go along......

A relative who now lives in Australia has been over for a month visiting her mum. It was a bit of a shock coming from a place without many cases. Last week the airline doing the first leg of the return journey cancelled flights from the UK so she tried to rebook via another route, then they cancelled. She finally got a last minute return and had to whizz down to Heathrow.

on her return to Australia she has to go in to 2 weeks government self isolation. This is at a hotel/motel, luck if the draw where you get and you pay for the pleasure. You get food etc delivered and your packages from outside are checked for ‘contraband’ or excessive alcohol. You don’t have a key to the door so are locked in.

she is in Brisbane area but has she flown into Sydney she would have had to do two weeks government isolation there, and then another fortnight isolation in Brisbane. I think it’s £1500 each stay!

that kind of control would certainly stop anything other than essential travel and stop travellers spreading the virus about.

Well, thank god they didn’t write to several local authorities and threaten them with legal action if they didn’t open their schools is all I can say.

  16. Absolutely, that would have been a bit embarrassing:rolleyes:

    Yep!

I’ve been watching Rob Kearney (Ireland and Lions fullback) twitter feed as he and family flew from Dublin to Perth I think. I don’t know if he’s migrated, or is in a temp contract, but he’s playing out there for a few years.

He’s going in to week two.

According to the governments web site here:

    https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/

The positive rate at testing is 487 per 100,000. Call it 500 for easy maths. That's 5 per thousand or one person testing positive for every 200 tests. To my amateur mind that doesn't seem like a lot? If I assume it's far more prevalent in cities, say twice as common being conservative (I bet it's 10x or more), maybe 1 in 500 or 1 in 1,000 is positive in the sticks. We're being locked down for that. It is puzzling.

One person in my village might have it. two or three MIGHT have it in the small town I use for shopping. The vast majority shrug it off. Apparently more people died in 1985 despite the population being 10M less. I don't remember that pandemic though.

I think they are aware there’s a lag in data and that many hospitals are at crisis.

A relative of mine with lung cancer has already been told should he catch it and need intervention, he won’t get it.

We already knew that the 20 beds, 25 patients equation meant many elderly would be left with very little medical help.

I’m told this new strain is hitting younger people...I assume ‘the public’ could accept the who gets help/who doesn’t decision with people in their 80’s (good innings etc), but far less so for people in their 30 and 40’s.

Factor in some people’s ability to take legal action (oh boy, if you think it’s bad now, stand by) if they don’t get treatment and far more importantly the daily horror of front line workers having to make those decisions each day and we run out of road pretty quickly.

  20. Same for a colleague of Mrs P - just relocated to Thailand with work - currently in a hotel in Bangkok for 2 weeks - it measures 13 steps by 4 steps....! No ambiguity, just defined terms. Stay in the room for the duration, no fresh air breaks outside, no using the hotel gym or pool.

Just eat, sleep and work in the room for 2 weeks.
