    Afternoon all,

Can I fix it or is it easiest to swap it out?
Next question; the tap hasn’t got flexis thus:

Do I just undo the top nut on the stop valve to remove it?

    cheers!

  3. If you've a good plumbers merchant that's a good to start in that you MAY be able to just change the cartridge (internal gubbins) ...
Turn off water and remove the handle then unscrew the cartridge and see if the plumbing place have one to match . You'll need to take along the handle to match the splines...

    Easy enough ??

Plan B is to change the whole tap but you'll be lucky to get an exact match pipe-wise ...

    Bin chance Mon ami

  5. Nowadays with flexible tails it doesn't really matter about getting an exact pipe match. Turn the water off, cut the pipes, remove the old tap, install the new tap. I'd cut the copper pipe long and then trim to length once the new tap is in place. A tap spanner set will make life easier worth removing old and installing new, and also help with getting a good purchase to set the tap tight to the sink. I've just replaced taps in kitchen and on boat. Here you go pipe cutter and tap spanner set, cheaper than a plumber.

  6. I'd...
    Turn of the isolation valve..
Strip the guts out of the tap...

put it back together after taking photos..

Look on eBay for replacement parts

    BINGO...!

  7. Out of interest how do you get the tap apart? Just for future reference, my old kitchen tap had washers in it and was severely corroded so wasn't an option.

I’ve shut off the water and undone the grub screw but I’m buggered if I can get the tap off.
All the videos on YouTube it comes off lovely!
    Any idea plumberists?

To answer my own question; pull it harder.

Now to get the shroud off without a strap wrench..

  10. If you are going to try and get a replacement cartridge try George Jones at the bottom of Ashley Hill or BBS in Barton Hill. One of them will be best bet.

  11. Under the tap you can see a horse shoe shaped bracket held in place by brass nut ,undo the nut using a box spanner ,pull away the bracket ,.
Undo the rod on the pop up waste ,remove the rod ,cut the pipes and pull out the tap.

You may have a problem getting a tap with rod operated pop up,if this is the case you will need to replace the waste with a click clack waste ( sprung loaded or captive plug. )
You may have to remove the basin to get to the waste

Buy a pallet of freezer spray, wrap the tap in bubble wrap and polystyrene, leave a small hole for the freezer spray nozzle. Keep applying freezer spray until it stops dripping, repeat.

    No!

Just got to wait for a strap wrench to be delivered tomorrow, then I’ll take the cartridge out, realise I can’t get a replacement, and follow the “replace the lot” advice above.
    Or do what @mikedjames said!

IGNORE THIS ADVICE!! I’ve just read and looked properly and realised it’s a basin tap sideways!! Not a kitchen tap :p Those type of cartridges you can replace, if you know the type of tap, or go for a general cartridge which often don’t stop the leak

I just had to change the cartridge on our kitchen tap. I went to the plumbers merchants where they have a whole box of different sizes and a measuring device. As @Lasty said you may need to take the handle too to check it fits. Mine had a bush on the splines so the handle wasn’t required. The nearest match to the cartridge worked but the splines bit was longer so the handle would have been a bit away from the tap. However, as I’m a resourceful plumber (heating engineer) and the splines was kind of two parts I cleverly sawed a bit off and now it fits perfectly :)

ps the handle doesn’t unscrew on yours too does it?
Pps don’t force it in case it doesn’t and you blame me for poor advice @Baysearcher ;)

    @Merlin Cat @jivedubbin
Are cartridges changeable in all taps?
I’ve got the shroud off now, but the brass “nut” isn’t a nut so I’ve got no idea how to remove it?

Its like a nut without any flats! Just a couple of castellations....
