Please talk to me about AGM leisure batteries?

  1. Ok, but this is a nice to have, it isn't strictly necessary if you go AGM, right?

No, Galileo proved that different weights fall at the same speed by dropping a beetle and a bus off the leaning tower of Pisa or something like that.
More weight just makes it harder to stop at the bottom (and harder to drag to the top).

Well, if you rely on the alternator to properly charge the starter battery, and the starter is AGM you will never properly charge the battery unless you modify the output voltage of the alternator. So strictly speaking no, for battery performance, yes.

  4. Assuming I charge my leisure batteries from the CTEK and use the alternator to charge an FLA starter, the run the fridge while not on gas via the alternator via thru the AGM leisure batteries, then I should be able to mix FLA starter with AGM leisure safely? I think this is what @theBusmonkey was suggesting, granted the AGM will only get properly charged when I'm on hookup, but it will be safer given I have a battery under the bed.

    IF YO
If you get a leisure battery with a vent pipe and feed that outside there will be no hydrogen buildup even if you overcharge it.
While an AGM will blow its vents suddenly in a very stinky sulphurous manner if you over charge it or overheat It.
I wouldnt regard either as being particularly unsafe or safe under the bed. I would worry more about the fire hazard from damaging the battery wiring or shorting it out with junk under the bed.

People generally get blown up with LPG or gassed with CO in camping situations.

Yes, this will work , provied you tell the CTEK the chemistry it is trying to charge, and it doesnt also charge the FLA starter.
And all that happens if you have a simple split charge relay is the leisure batteries do not charge, but the loads like the fridge will still work from the alternator as you require.

  8. It's the MXS 25, says it does all types including AGM :)
