Just filled the tank up so that I could try out that Road Trip app on the iPhone. Only done 74 miles since last fill up, plus a bit of starting and warming up now and then on the drive. Wish I hadn't bothered. It shows as 16.09 MPG
I reckon I'm getting about 15 Working it out more accurately from the last fill up. Lady at the petrol station said 'That's a right happy looking van' which was nice. Maybe that's what makes it so thirsty......
Holy cow that's not a lot. My camper van has only got an old twin port 1.6 and returns on average about 24mpg on a trip fully loaded with a gert big Viking roof up to. The pick up has got a 2.0 type4 engine gets about 27mpg on average. The new beetle cab has a 1.6 and give me abou 30 mpg around town so for me works out just as cheap to dive the crewie around. What engine have you got fitted?
I have a 2.0 type 4, and last time I did a manual check after a journey I worked it out at around 24. Will have to see how it goes next year. I had all the valve timings and carb settings done by a good guy about 18 months 2 years ago, and it runs fine.
My pick up has a 2.0 type4 with twin webber ict 34's carbs, I done the valves points etc myself, it runs like a dog think the carbs need setting up again. On my run to France was hitting the top 20's
I think I worked out I was getting about 20mpg with my 1600. But as has been said - does it really help to know?
I know the mpg is bad on the camper. But it's a old van, you must have known the mpg was bad before buying.
we get about 20mpg on a run, 13.8mpg out of my s-type with sport button on. ( s-type up for sale, any takers?)
If you're getting 16mpg, something isnt set-up right. Around France last year I averaged 28 and I drive it with my right foot planted. Mines a 1600TP and at the time it had a crappy Bocar carb fitted.
Also what are you carrying in your van? Are you packed out for a mega camp or just quite light? Because obv the weight effects the mpg. I also found when i had my van lowered. They changed the front two tyres, weighted correctly and the tracking done. Fuel was a lot better
