Parental advice.

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by grandmst, Jul 29, 2020.

  1. So Mrs is 13 weeks on now.

And I'm interested, if there was one piece of advice you parents out there wish you knew or where told before hand, I would like to hear it.

    Anddddd go.

Don’t buy everything new. You’ll spend literally £1000s and it can all be bought for less than half price on MarketPlace.

  6. Already started that one, found some absolute bargains.

Then again I do live in yorkshire, so need to keep up the right arse stigma

When my mrs told me which pram she wanted I almost had a heart attack. It cost more than my first car. And my second car. And my third car.
    Combined.

I did ask can we have a water birth pool thing, not for the Mrs but for me to chill in with a beer.

The more time you spend with the child talking the better things will turn out.

Our eldest has just passed her Masters degree in Chemistry at Bristol, my wife basically gave up work after redundancy about 12 years ago to make sure our daughters were supported through teenage years..

  15. I'd agree about buying stuff second hand where you can it will save you a fortune. We had loads of stuff that we sold for a fraction what it cost new, enough to make you weep. Make sure you do all those kids things whilst they are young, its not long until they think you their dad is no longer cool and won't want anything much to do with you.

Teach them money doesn't grow on trees make them work for stuff and that whilst you might be their parent you aren't a servant.

  17. When they are about four or five years old, if you don’t already have one, and if your lifestyle allows then I recommend getting a dog. Nothing to do with the kids, just gives you a great excuse to take it out for a walk and get a bit of peace and quiet.

by the way there’s no shame in occasionally wondering if it would be okay to sell them on eBay. We’ve all done it.

Agree with... Be at the birth obviously... And be there, be there as much as possible, they grow up real quick.

i discovered late ish , theres more to life than work . dont work 12 hr shifts and saturdays and Sundays to get stuff for the kids, stay at home with the kid , just being there is woth a fortune

  20. Use reusable nappies. Saves a fortune and you can buy bamboo ones from eBay. when you're done you can sell them on. They wash really easily and your baby will quickly be potty trained.
