I plan to go back to stock with a new 1600 engine, air cleaner and a single Solex 34 Pict 3. I need to find a carb to do send off to Rage in NL for a proper overhaul. My question is, can a previously restored carb be restored again? Or should I just send a rusted battered looking Solex? I'm not sure what quality of carb I should send him!
If the body of the carburettor is not damaged and the spindle is not too rattly then it can be rebuilt.. at home too ..
Possibly, I suppose we don't know until these guys strip them and inspect them for damage and find bodged repairs by have-a-go amateurs like us! Fire risks and all that... https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=de&tl=en&u=http://www.oldtimerwensing.de/index.php?id=15
The biggest fire risk on a stock Solex carburettor is apparently the brass fuel inlet pipe can fall out, leading to a petrol shower. Some people in the States go to a fair amount of trouble to refit the pipe or further secure it. Most of the remainder of the usual fuel leaks end up inside the engine. Theres not too much to refurbishment, apart from the time it takes which is why its expensive.
