  1. Thought I would start to record our progress on our bus since we are starting to get stuck into some jobs.

I will start by expressing my new found love for this product (C4) it’s brought the dash plastics up nicely and supposed to last two years.

Any advice on tarting up the face of the warning light section of the clocks?

The loom has been hacked into over the years it seems. Just tidying it up. Doesn’t help that’s it’s been hacked into for the ej20 conversion.

Needs an accessory 12v for the radio not sure wether to take it from the vw ignition switch or the scooby switch that’s under the bed!

That’s all for now, need to catch up on what we’ve done so far though!

The clock binnacle looks good, also heard good things about the the C4 but was told the price

Maybe use a bit of cutting compound like G3 on the warning light section, as it looks like rust spots, then seal it with some retailers wax or a matt/satin lacquer, failing that repainting it is an option.

The only wiring that should be behind the dash for the Ej20 will be for any additional gauges/Eml/immobiliser, the ignition switch might even have a spare accessory output, or failing that I think I used an ignition live terminal (possibly with a piggyback terminal) on the fusebox.

  3. Just finished sorting the electrics, way to many crimps for my liking so spent some time soldering before taping parts up. It hung below the dash before and looked naf!

Wired in a little demister unit just to clear the drivers side when needed. Hopefully I can find a wee gap to put it in.

It’s had a new front end at some point and it hasn’t been seen sealed by the looks of it. Need to work out how to get right down to the bottom to sort it!

Someone’s bodged in a washer fluid tank from a ford, not even fixed down need to sort that too!

    [IMG][IMG]

Made a little plate to sit above the fuse box. Probably needs painting though!

  4. New headlights fitted with H4 bulbs and led side lights. Boxes the hella ones up so they can be returned at a later date.

Are the eyebrows supposed to rock forwards a little bit?

Some prat before me fitted the indicators with wood screws and no gasket on the lenses. FML

  5. New indicator lense seals, nightmare to fit.

New compressor/sand blaster and spray guns ready to paint the interior bits and bumpers.

Put together a new headbanger from evomotion, seems good but was very fiddly to put together. Think I will take apart and use some glue too.

Fitted new bumpers in the rain, desperate to get the interior bits and bumpers painted so I can put it all back together and move the bus!

Have a tow bar and couldn’t get the irons anyway so cut out the mounting plate from inside the bumper. Using rivnuts underneath the tow bar which will allow me to mount some uni strut to allow adjustability of the bumper. Four stainless button heads on bottom of bumper and two used on top.

Pretty happy with how it’s turned out.

Didn’t want to drill and rivnut the front end of the bus so made some adaptor plates instead. Only brings the bumper forward about 5mm.

    Looking good
One point the front indicators are fitted incorrectly.
The housing should be fitted from the outside along with the seal then the lens screws on top.

Probably a bit late but I found rubbing it with meths on a bit of paper towel polished the spots off the face of the clocks. It seemed to be on the surface of the paint rather than rust , which would be difficult on aluminium ...

  10. Yeah I tried that first and it made it worse. Ended up painting them. Accept the speedo obviously. :)

  11. Bumpers and some interior parts prepped for epoxy primer today. Could only spray back of bumpers because the epoxy I had was too thick and couldn’t be thinned down (according to the instructions). Wasn’t atomising properly.

Anyone got could recommendations for a sprayable epoxy primer?

What epoxy have you got? Most are fine thinned with 2K thinner.

  15. Ended up using novol 360 1:1 ratio no thinners. Sprayed really nicely, unfortunately with this being my first time using a spray gun on so thing that mattered I ended up with a few runs. Wouldn’t be a problem with a normal paint but the epoxy takes ages to harden to a state where it can be sanded. Needless to say several days later I’m finally over the learning curve and have some nice freshly epoxied parts. Yay!!

Oh and it turns out the compressor doesn’t wake the neighbours up! (As far as a I know)

  16. After a few days of hard work and learning on the job we have some bumpers and interior parts in l87 Pearl white. Now to paint the rest of the bits in L41 black.

New found appreciation for anyone in the auto body trade!

Bought a machine polisher to cut and buff these when they have hardened off. Any advice?

  17. Finally took the plunge and started refurb of the pop top. Going to resprayed the roof line whilst we’re at it. Serious bodge jobs done in the past!

  18. Started to strip the brackets/hinges ready for powder coating. Too long for the blast cabinet so taking ages!

Cleaned inside the fibreglass pedestal, varnished and sealed where required. Devon really did a shoddy job putting these together!

New roof vent to replace the original. It’s bigger but should look good from the outside.

The pvc I ordered for the top came orange! Oops!!

  19. Brackets powder coated!

Aluminium box section used to support the roof with added corner braces. Foil insulation in the pockets.

Silver tape over the original roof, was impossible to clean it up it hindsight should have made a new one!

New sides riveted in to, guess we will but the weighted below type back in when we can afford it!

Later of foil glued down below the vinyl,

Vinyl glued on top, new vent added. Not 100% happy with it. But a gazillion times better than what we had before!
