If you have a chair, I'm good at suggesting things and very patient. :)

He-he - this is going to be fun. 2 weeks is the most I can muster without earning - the bills keep on a coming through the door don't they? I should be able to get about a bit in that time. I'll try and make a sensible route when I know where I'm going. I'm liking the way this tour will invent itself. :)

O-Oh - the webs of doom. I recognise these straggly but strong webs now.

They lead to the jacking point. I shone my inspection light up there and I could see the bugger. I tried to take a picture up the jacking point, but my camera wouldn't focus. What to do? After much thought, I hit it with a 15 second burst of cheap rattle can primer, then blasted the airline in for good measure. Hopefully that will have slowed it down a bit.

So - onto the sliding door - it's been in a puddle for a while so I was told. This is how it was.

Over the weekend, and after work today I replaced the bottom of the inner and outer. As little as possible. I'm not sure what to do about top coat on the outside. If I spray it all nice and shiney it'll look silly. I might hand paint it black.

  6. Tidy repair on the door zed

Add a touch of matting agent to the paint and blow it on using a door shut gun attempting to blend it in to the excisting paint

It could be anything Chris. It was done in the States.

  10. Take a chip of it and see how close they can match it zed
Surely a closeish match is better than a black line

  11. That door repair looks great 8)

It must be harder to maintain patina and match in repairs than it is to respray fresh paint.......well done for having a go, I'll be interested to see how it turns out

.....are those spiders breeding  ......I thought they were supposed to fumigate imports??

I think that's the last spider but I'll be keeping an eye out for webs - the webs are like nothing any British spider builds - very strong and really random.

I thought black because the repair panel was black and when I was lining it up it sort of disappeared. From previous experience metallics are too difficult to match. The flakes come in a variety of sizes and colours, which can be mixed in any proportions and overall quantity even if you get the base colour right. Darker always looks better than light though if you get it wrong! Still wrong though.

So if it must be wrong, rather than look like I tried and failed, I'd rather look like I don't give a plop. Which I don't :) See?

  13. Have you thought about going down the red oxide look???

it will still stand out but not as much as black IMO

rust buster do epoxy mastic in red oxide finish, its 2K so water proof

Have you thought about spraying a similar colour and distressing it , rde oxide first and then top coat and t cut it almost back to the red oxide ;)
