I’ll be honest. The last time I read a newspaper was last year. The New York Times. And that’s just to say I read one, as we were there.
I just don’t read newspapers, ever since I stopped working with people that buy them. 18 years, maybe?
And the only news I watch is the breakfast one as I’m the first one up in the morning. Only really watch it for Carol, and her warm front, on the weather, for work.
I probably watch more YouTube than anything.
You know, like how to do stuff, or reviews on things:thumbsup:

Think newspapers will die out as the (even) older generation do.
Always amuses me when the old dears queue to pay for their fags, lottery tickets and newspapers .... why the need to buy the Mirror and the Sun ..... it's old news before the papers even printed.

Being into house building, I say let everyone in who wants to come. Just don't cry about losing more of the green belt

Was meant to be tongue in cheek, listening to some on here it seems ok to allow everyone in that wants to come and if you don't it seems your racist.

  9. Which messages have given you that impression? I'm struggling to see anyone saying that so would welcome to hear where you see that and why :)

I don't see it as a black and white issue of either you think the UK should have completely no rules or regulations on immigration, or you are racist. Seems like a very simplistic take on something that is so complex. I feel some on here are just wishing the government be truthful with how the UK has, and continues to influence the wider world through colonialism and exploitation, and act accordingly to ensure the pain of this ends. Then we may all get what we want, to live where we genuinely feel at home, surrounded by others who feel that too. I welcome the original poster starting a conversation about this, as i feel It's healthy to debate and discuss.

Sadly, privilege shrouds us from seeing how things actually are, so I would encourage us all to check ourselves before making any assumptions about others, and where you might be getting the impression that you know what others intentions are.

The frustration that we all seem to share of the economic situation of the UK, and the strain that immigration places on underfunded services is totally understandable. I just deeply hope we can see a peaceful solution to this, which a core part is recognising why we are experiencing this situation in the first place.

Quite honestly, I feel this subject is far beyond the scope of a conversation that can be had on a forum

The OP started a discussion and had the racist tag levelled at him, if he is or isn't I don't know but I didn't see it in the initial post.
Wishing this government to be truthful on anything is like asking a snake to take up running.
You ask me not to assume but I didn't see you diving in to defend the OP regards other peoples assumptions.
Reading things on a forum without the face to face interaction sometimes means people will take things the wrong way.
I've been the subject of racial abuse in Papua New Guinea so I know how it feels, didn't feel any privilege then :)

  14. I didn't just ask you personally not to assume, I was making a general comment to all of us on that, hence my wording of "I would encourage all". Exactly because it's easy to do on a platform like this. Apologies that you feel singled out on that, but you've misinterpreted what I said, again, easily done with this forum malarkey.

Privilege operates differently depending on the culture you are in, so I'm not too sure how you feeling that you experienced racism in Papa New Guinea has anything to do with the privilege you may have in the UK...? :)
