Indeed it is. The pictures in Wilson and Bentley are not great quality, so the thread on Samba helped with position and number of washers and orientation of chamfers after some, not inconsiderable head scratching!
Shoulda looked at the threads in Resto here ... Although the original solid spacer set up not on mine... Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
I did...honest, but I must have forgotten. ...yours is a great thread by the way. I just looked at the Detroit Chrysler video on Ratwell about hydraulic tappets from the 1954. Absolutely brilliant. https://www.ratwell.com/technical/HydraulicLifters.html
Just fitted my pushrod springs and I wanted to check here if these look right. I'm just a bit concerned that I might have fitted these incorrectly as they were not there on stripdown so I have no reference. I haven't found any clear photos of the springs in place to see how they sit and I'm worried they may move in action. Thanks
That is correct. The originals sat more evenly/straight against the ends of the tubes but if they press on the tubes and nothing hits them I don't see it being a problem. I don't know if this is correct but when I fit them I get them in place as I put the rocker shaft on, let them go down the tubes if they want then pull the bit between each pair of tubes with long nosed plyers
Hi all Some news, but now good news..... I just wanted to let you know that I am currently in hospital but all is well and this a good news message. Yesterday, I had a planned operation to remove a polyp in my lower intestine. The biopsy a few weeks ago I indictated that it is benign and as far as we know not the big C. I'm glad I've done this op to remove the blighter. I've spent a night in ICU and will be off to my ward later. I may be here for up to 6 days, but hopefully I may be home by the weekend if I am good boy. So engine work for the next few weeks will be in pause but I managed to get to my planned point as you can see above. I'm hoping I'll be able to do some of the smaller bits and pieces in preparation for when I can use a torque wrench again. You will be please to know that one of my books I brought is a VW repair manual Chris
Look after yourself. Don’t overdo it when you get home. At least you can daydream about the engine. It’ll help the time go by. Best wishes.
All the best for a speedy recovery. Someone i know had the same done without the overnight stay. He was fine quite quickly, so hope yours won't impact you for long.
All the best on the recovery.. won't be long till you're getting oily again! Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk
Get well soon mate. You’ll feel better quicker knowing you have got the engine ready to go back in. Lay off the spanner’s for a bit though till your good though. Although saying that I remember removing the dash & taking it for powder coating a few days after an ACL operation on my knee. Couldn’t bend my leg at the time Things we do
Hi all. I'm home and I'm fine. I'd loved to say in one piece, but there will be forever a piece of me left at St Peter's Hospital.. Thanks for all of your kind thoughts and as a reward please expect to see more stupid questions about old engines from yours truly. Cheers
