Oh poop end float problem

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by paradox, Dec 10, 2012.

  1. Ive just realised i took the measurment without the crank pulley attached to the other end of the crank:confused:
Im going to fit it and the flywheel back on tmw and measure the float without the shims in

Would having no crank pulley attached make a difference?

I thought you may have been, I would honestly run it as is, though if you get offered a good case for free that's an excellent solution

  5. Sorry to hear of your woes Para. I can't offer much more than sympathy but its nice to see there some decent people on here willing to try and help you out with parts. Hope everything comes together for you so the Parabus can hit the roads this year.

  6. What a loverly offer as well cheers muchly there are some wonderfull people on this forum

Do the cases you have need machining at all?

  7. im going to be honest mate, i have no idea.
the one sat on my kitchen floor came with a bunch of bonus stuff i got when i bought an engine off a mate,
but the other one be coming out of my bus, and will certainly need machining!
anyways, the offer of either is there :)

  8. Is there any chance you could measure up the one you got as a bonus to see if it needs machining dude?

  9. I will measure mine tomorrow as i'm on a training course today:( and i need some batteries for my vernier guage also so will get some on my way home :)

  10. You'll only get a rough measurement with a vernier, and you can only measure at the case split line.
You need to take a few measurements around the bearing seat, across the split line and at 90deg to this at the very least. This tells you if the bearing has been ovalled.

    That's a bit flash Oscar!

  12. I have one of those as well ...... Doesn't everyone ?

  13. I have nothing to measure accurately, i will be able to tell if it has been line bored to its limit or thrust has been cut to max. If uncut with no loose dowels etc it may be better for free than the one Paradox has now

  15. im gunna be honest buddy, i wouldnt know how/which bits of the case to measure, havent delved inside one before!
and thats why the complete engine i bought in bits when i first got my bus is still dotted around my flat..
'yeah, its just an engine, ive built loads before it'll be fine....' (didnt realize quite how different the aircooleds are to my RB26!! haha)

  16. Cheers for everyones input and offers of cases:thumbsup:

The engines going to be dropped with paul weeding and hes going to split the case and see if an oversized bearing could be turned down to fit the case

  17. Nice one Paradox :) If your case is pooped you or Paul send me a pm and I will check mine out, otherwise wont bother now. :) Good luck
