Had a windfall ..... After much "umming and ahhing" we worked out that, as long as we eventually move the battery on, to a domestic storage setting, this is the right eco-decision to make: ... and a future classic
Oh dear,sorry ..... BMW i3. Lots of carbon fibre and aluminium. Started around 2013. Three mk's, same shape with minor improvements and revisions including three battery "kWh upgrades" in the same volume. Discontinued 2022. Strong loyal following. Sound vaguely familiar?
Had ours for two years now, love it. zero road tax, for about 6 months of the year we manage to charge directly off the solar so it’s completely free motoring
Good to hear... Yet to hear a bad word from owners. Thanks to a stupidly humungous Sycamore we're not on for PV. When/if it gets pollarded though ........... This is a 2018 "REX" so the 33kwh 94ah battery plus midget petrol generator as a get out of jail free card just in case. If we could have stretched the budget any more it would have been a 2019 EV with the 120ah battery. Going to "granny charge" it on night rate for the time being, and pay for a 7kw "fast" charger if that's proving difficult to manage. Yet to pick it up!
That’s how I used to cut the grass at the last house I didn’t have enough money at the time for a petrol lawn mower and the garden was too big to use an extension lead But I already had an electric mower and a cheap nasty generator bought from Woolworths when they closed down. Adapt and overcome

sounds great ours is a 120Ah so 150-180 ish range depending on how you drive. Wouldn’t work as our only car but we have a Honda diesel estate for longer trips / luggage / dogs etc. since I mostly work from home the electric car does nearly all of our journeys now, diesel prob only gets used once a week maybe? we have a zappi charger - it’s the only one I found that will allow you to divert 100% of your solar into the car, or power the house first then only put excess into the car so you can can avoid selling back (as the rate is rubbish) it’s really good, or timer so it uses off peak tariff etc. control it via an app on your phone we used just a 240v initially - it’ll be enough to keep it topped up if you’re not doing many miles, but will take a long time to charge from empty.
We've inherited a Prolec 7kw "dumb" charger from our Son in Law, who's about to get a Zappi, so if the three pin is too slow, (or too warm!) we'll get that properly fitted to double the charging speed. It really is mainly for all the "local" driving, and we're planners by nature, so should all be good We were so timid on our test drive that the "miles remaining" went UP! Just a case of a projection forward, based on driving style, so to be expected, but still, a bit weird
